So I checked the QVL for the ASUS Maximus X Hero and thought I was good.
Apparently is an F4-4133C19D and F4-4133C19Q. The Q is on the QVL, the D is not.

SADFACE. I bought the wrong one. And after looking, you can't buy the F4-413319Q RGB anywhere? Another Sadface.

SO. What are my chances in getting ASUS to offer XMP support on the board for the F4-4133C19D?

Tweaking with settings, I was able last night to get it to boot at 3866mHZ, 1.35v, 19-19-19-39 Mode 1(technically 19-19-39 by input since the board ties the tRCD and tRP to one rate)

It seems like they would just have to figure out all the appropriate individual timings, or is it likely this will never get XMP support and put on the QVL?

Am I better off sitting at 3866 or should I try going higher - I have no idea what to do to get higher, and I feel like I was lucking getting 3866 to work without too much struggle (it didn't work once, dropped to 3700 and bumped back up and it posted)

Those speeds are tricky regardless of the kit used. Personally I would tune from where you are at the moment (3700-3866). You can try using more VDIMM (1.4-1.45v). Although things have progressed considerably since Skylake in a lot of ways, 4000Mhz stability is still tough. Especially with that density.

Depending on how well you're able to dial in, you may have to relax some of the secondary timings, too. Manual tuning of VCCSA and IO rails is also needed at times. Try around 1.2v to begin with.

Currently using a Corsair H115i for CPU cooling and Air for GPU cooling while I wait for my custom loop EK kit to come in this weekend 😄

Who needs HDD anyway?

I'm kinda new to Overclocking - despite being a software engineer 0.o. I've always just did auto configs and went with it, but with this build I want to grab every ounce I can.

Is the system stable at those settings? Test memory stability with HCI Memtest using one instance per CPU thread, dividing 90% of available memory. That will tell you how far away you are (if not already) from being stable before going any further.

Sweet, I'll grab that when I get home from work this evening and try it out. Appreciate the help! Will let you know how it goes, I was able to play SWBFII for 3 hours last night at those settings, seems stable enough. Will post when I find out HCI memtest.

Yeah, let us know how you get on. Frostbite engine is fairly CPU heavy as far as gaming goes, but won't be so much on the memory side. Aim for a minimum of 400% coverage.

I let it run overnight, up to 800% coverage I had 0 errors, then I had 3 between 800-1000, and none again after 1000-1400 when I stopped it. Perhaps my pc got busy doing an update at night that interfered? 800% at 0 seems legit to me, I can probably ignore the three right?

Notch both DRAM volts and VCCSA 10 to 15mv, and call it stable. HCI with all instances pegged to CPU threads is a fairly brutal test of stability. It can also be on the uncore side if overclocking there. For a gaming system, I'd say you're fine. If you do notice any instability, though, you know where to look first 😉

Should I consider attempting to breach 4000mhz or just be happy with the 3866 for now? I would assume, in the future ASUS would increase the number of chips on their QVL list, since only 4 at 4133 is a small number to begin with. Its one of those I paid for 4133, I would love to get the 4133 things, but it might be out of reach for now, I can live with that as long as I have hope for later.
