Graphic card help

Hello all, I need some advice on purchasing another video card. I am building a new gaming rig and bought a Asus Matrix 7970 Platnium card when they released, intending to buy another one later to do crossfire. I am now ready to buy another card but cannot find that card anywhere. newegg says discontinued. I have never did a crossfire or sli setup before and was wondering if i can use a different card to do crossfire. I have heard you can do this even using different companies cards as long as something is the same and i dont know what that something is. is this a good idea or should i just sell my card and buy 2 new identical cards.

I think it should work if you can match clock speeds. Correct me if I'm wrong, regulars.

The thing that has to be the same is the card itself. I'm not up on AMD, but Nvidia recommends to use only the same card in SLI. You can check their forums. Don't buy yourself heaqdaches.

Clock speeds, memory speeds should be the same...with CF you can mix cards with no worries, even using another ASUS 7970 should be fine 🙂

AMD make things easy....you can Xfire even different cards! EG a 7970 with 7950.

Check this table out to see which ones: http://sites.amd.com/us/game/technology/Pages/crossfirex.aspx

But I think the Xfire will be limited by the lesser card so probably best to get another 7970 for you. Doesn't matter which model OCd or not etc. Best to get same memory size.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
