Good build? -First build-

Hey, this is my first build and I'm wondering if it's good, I'm pretty sure it is, but I am also unsure at the same time. I didn't go overboard with the spending as I don't want to spend TOO much money but here it is...

Ram
-Corsair 16Gb vengeance 4 module kit DDR3

Graphics Card
-Asus AMD Radeon HD 7970 Graphics Card (3GB, GDDR5, HDMI, DVI-I, PCI-Express 3.0)

Processor
-Intel Core i7 3820 Quad Core CPU (3.60GHz, 10MB Cache, Socket 2011, 130W, Sandy Bridge)

Motherboard
-ASUS Rampage IV Extreme Intel x79 2011 Motherboard (PCI-E 3.0 x16, DDR3 1600, SATA, RAID, ATX)

Cooling Unit
-Coolermaster V8 Cooler RR-UV8-XBU1-GP Fan (yes liquid cooling is good but I don't want to have to deal with the maintenance).

Power Supply
-Corsair CMPSU-1200AXUK Professional Series Gold 1200W Power Supply (Help with this? Not sure if it's correct or not for the hardware....http://rog.asus.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.png

Thanks for the help and possible advice 🙂

Hey there!:)

Personally I wouldn't go with that RAM, get yourself something better for this board. X79 is picky with RAM and I've seen nothing but problems on this forum with that make. The PSU seems overkill even if you are going to add another GPU later.....850 would be fine. What you save on the PSU you could spend on RAM!;)

Well, the built looks good... You went with a top of the line mobo and choose the weakest CPU possible... but maybe in the future you can upgrade that (for that CPU you could find less expensive mobo if the money was an issue). And yes, liquid cooling is good - and with the closed loop kits you don't even have to deal with maintenance...

So, regarding your question if this built is good or not - you forget to mention why did you built it? For what you're going to use it?

Thanks a bunch, I'm building it for gaming and decided to go with the ripjaw 16gb kit and the i7 3930k but dropped the graphics card from the 3gb to The Asus Radeon HD 7850 DirectCU II Graphics Card (2GB GDDR5, PCI Express 3.0, 870MHz/4840MHz, HDMI, DVI-I, DirectX 11.1) and dropped the psu to 850w as well 🙂

Good idea with the CPU and RAM but to make sure you better give us the model number of the Ram, for example ( F3-12800CL9Q-16GBZL ) so we can double check compatibility.

It's Item model number: F3-17000CL9Q-16GBZH also, I again changed the specs...i went with the rampage iv formula, intel i7 3820 and 2x sapphire oc'd radeon hd 7870's

Cool, you can check out the G. Skill website for more info about your RAM compatibility, from what I see it should be OK.

You could also look into Corsair's liquid cooling system. There's no maintenance required there, and I believe it will provide a better cooling for your CPU. Overall build looks pretty good though.
