Getting Lost

I am not sure what to do. As for graphics, ssd, memory, and all the rest I am fine.

But on CPU and motherboard; that's another issue.

i7-4790k Devil's is 412.96 amazon
i7-4930k is 578.99

I have no idea which way to go. The cost is close enough to not matter (to me). I have read the specs over and over. Been to CPU boss, but that place does not have the i7-4790k OEM CPU as yet. So hard to really use that place as a compare site, yet.

The new chip runs 4 GHz compared to 3.4GHz.
New 8 MB cache to 12MB old
Max memory bandwidth 25.6GB to 59.7GB (guess this does not matter much)
Of course we all know about the cores and I guess that does not matter that much yet.

The kicker is newer technology, faster more efficient chip with Devil's canyon and a bit cheaper.

I see that PCI Express Configuration on the devil's canyon is up to 1x16,2x8,1x8/2x4 Does this mean it will not support 2 SLI running x16? Does it mean if you run SLI you will be running 2x8? No matter what the motherboard can do? If so, that is bad right?

I have been reading and taking notes for weeks. Getting lost in all this mess, but it is fun I have to say.

take a look at the chipset the CPU's are made fot.
the 4930K is LGA2011 if im not mistaken, so no go there.
2x8 you will hardly notice enny diffrence realy if you run SLI/x-fire.

go for the Z97 series, the X79/X99 is more expensive compare to the Z97 platform.

x8x8 when you are running PCIe 3.0 is like x16x16 PCIe 2.0 you will not see a performance hit of more than 1% when compared to x16x16 PCIe 3.0, if that, since the bandwidth is no where near saturated.

Choosing a chipset will in part dictate your RAM choice too...so you have to decide what you want...what you want to do with the platform and then pick parts that are tailored for it.

But yeah, that's half the fun...reading up and choosing stuff 😉
