Geo-Thermal Loop

Hi there

I have a geo-thermal heating and cooling system in my house. The first install had too small of well to support my whole house. Has anyone ever used a geo-thermal loop as a cooling heat sink? I am good friends with the owner of the company that fixed my system. The first well was only 48 feet deep and has High Density Polyethylene Pipe and is already filled with distilled water. Since I am not using this loop right now for my home I was thinking about putting a over sized rad in a sealed insulated tank and have the geo-thermal loop circulate thru it. Has anyone done this or is it too crazy of a mod...The tank that he recommends is for cooling MRI scanners and has 4 1m^2 x 65mm rads(He calls them heat sinks). The tank is recycled from the hospital upgrade. He has offered to give this to me if I buy the circulating pump from him. The well is located about 9 feet from my computer room. The cooling reservoir/tank is not much to look at but with the well I would have about 160 gallons of coolant available. If I add more water cooled systems I can just pop the caps on the other heat sinks or use them for separate loops. On paper it looks like it work well but I have never heard of this being done in the home before...

What temps would you expect in that sealed thank where you would put the radiator? And what would be your ambient temp where you have your system?

I keep the ambient temp is around 74 º F in my computer room and the tank input temp would 50-55 º F.

Does anyone know if there is a access to get tubing out the back of the Corsair 900D case?

He also said that I would have to get heavily insulated tubing so the coolant does not gain heat travel from reservoir tank to the system.

LOL, I almost said that "of, course, every case has holes for tube routings", then I checked the pics of that case... - can not say that I saw all the pics on the net about that case, but I wasn't able to see the tubing holes on the back...

But, no problem! You can easily cut some holes - or you can get some PCI brackets with holes...

50-55F seems pretty good... like a chiller, but with much less noise! :cool: You just have to double-check your ambient humidity... too much difference between the ambient temp and coolant temp may cause condensations in your system...

Use a dew point calculator to figure out when the condensation would happen: http://www.dpcalc.org/

you can use a pcie bracket whit quick disconnect's so you can unplugg it just in cse if your gona move it or enny thing happens

+1 for the Koolance QDC's. I was not impressed with the Phobya QDC I bought so I would avoid those.

Also, the reason you haven't heard of anyone doing this is the cost. You are in a unique position having basically everything but the pump. I would go for it. And of course report back. 😄

I've seen a few GeoThermal cooled pc's before, i've always wanted to but simply don't have the time required to get the whole thing setup.
