First Time Builder Seeks Advice

Hi everyone, this is my very first system build and I just wanted to run it by you guys to see what you think about the components that I've chosen, any feedback is appreciated.:o

Due to the higher prices of 8 gig dims, I was thinking of starting out with 16 gigs of memory, then upgrading to 32 gigs then finally to 64 gigs but I've read that you can have compatibility issues even among memory of the same type and model numbers if bought separately, so I decided to buy a 64 gig set in one package i.e. the ( F3-12800CL10Q2-64GBZL )

This is what I have in mind::

CASE - NZXT Switch 810 (Black Edition)

MOTHERBOARD - Asus Rampage IV Extreme

PROCESSOR - Intel Core i7-3930K

CPU COOLER - Corsair Hydro Series (H100)

POWER SUPPLY - Cooler Master Silent Pro Hybrid 1050W (RS-A50-SPHA-D3)

OPTICAL DRIVE - PIONEER Blu-Ray Burner (BDR-2206B5PK)

HDD - Western Digital Caviar Black 2 TB (WD2002FAEX) x 2

SSD - SanDisk Extreme 240GB SATA 6.0 Gb-s 2.5-Inch (SDSSDX-240G-G25) x 1

VIDEO CARD - Asus GTX 680 DirectCU II Top (GTX670-DC2T-2GD5) x 1 for now

MEMORY - G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 64GB (8 x 8GB) (F3-12800CL10Q2-64GBZL)

COOLING - NZXT FZ-140mm Red LED FAN (RF-FZ140-R1) x 10

FAN CONTROLLER - Lamptron FC Touch - 30W - 6 Channel w/ Touch Screen

CASE LIGHTING KIT - NZXT Sleeved LED Case Light Kit (Red) 2 Meter (CB-LED20-RD)

OPERATING SYSTEM - [Windows 7 Ultimate

I'm not a hardcore gamer by any means, I just want a very stable beast of a system to use with photo and video editing software, DJ software, casual gaming etc. Any feedback weather good 🙂 or bad  will be appreciated.

Thanks, I actually use Traktor Pro 2, I find this to be way better that serato scratch live. I'm building this to use with photo and video editing as well so I need some serious power.

Thanks for the pics!

It is as I suspected... only one problem you can have that the Corsair's stock fans are way better than the NZXTs... They may push mopre air through than the NZXTs could remove - and getting the problem with the airflow... You will really need to synchronize those two sets of fans for optimal airflow! 🙂

You have a very good point, Corsair's stock fans are faster than the NZXTs. I actually tried it out and when I have the NZXTs at max and I put my hand over top, the exhaust air flow really increases when I turn up the Corsair's stock fans, it's like they blow right through the NZXTs, go figure.

Where did you connected the stock fans? To the H100's controller as it is suggested by the manufacturer or to the Laptron controller?

At the moment I have all 9 of the NZXT fans connected directly to 12 volts and the 2 H-100 fans are on the Cooler Master controller that came with my power supply, for now.

I don't know if it is normal, but when I have the h-100 fans plugged into its controller, every time I turn on the system the both fans revs really really high then comes down slowwwly.

I think, it's OK - that's how they work. The H100 dynamically controls the fan's speed. If you have it on high/performance setting, specially will rev them up!

Does the fan speed control also vary the speed of the pump or is the pump speed constant? Just wandering.:)

You caught me on that! 😄 If I was the designer of the H100, I would made it to change dynamically both the pump's and the fan's speed... But I'm not the designer... 🙂

I don't know if it's just me but I swear that if I cycle through the speeds without the fans connected, I can hear the tone of the pump changing, which leads me to believe that the pump speed changes with the speed control.

on that top cover, is there enny space between the cover and the case? if i wanted to make a "custom" cover for it?
then i mean a plate whit no holes in it so it would block some of the air, ( i use the top as "table" for the mouse ).
