First build after a very long hiatus

Hello there ladies and gents, need some opinions on a build I will be doing soon. I haven't built a computer in a very long time, I think last time was when P3 and P4 were the hottest thing in the world hahaha 😉

This build is gonna be for gaming, and running SETI@home and BOINC on the side. Budget is ~2000 USD Can be more, can be
less. I'm considering using some water cooling as well, but probably not an AIO, like the look of a custom setup. Based on the research I've been doing, a pair of SC 760's stomps pretty much the other high end cards, and much cheaper to boot. I will take any and all suggestions. Planning on doing overclocking too, as well as deliding the CPU and cleaning it up to reduce the temps. The rig will be hooked to my 42" tv, so I don't need a monitor, I do have surround sound, so any good sound cards you can recommend would be appreciated. Trying to keep the theme red/black, saw a pair of MSI twin frozr 760's that would be awesome, but they seem to be sold out everywhere. Ok, I'm rambling now lol

This is my parts list so far:

CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($279.99 @ Microcenter)
Thermal Compound: Noctua NT-H1 3.5g Thermal Paste ($6.98 @ Amazon)

Looking very good right there.

I was thinking of doing a push pull setup with a sealed cooler system, and the rad mounted on the top of the case, would it fit inside the Trooper case? Or should I be looking at another case?

My room at the house is upstairs, and usually in the summer probably around 80-85F, so I'd like to have the max airflow possible, and I do have my A/C on while I'm in there, so the temp would drop down more.

So maybe the Corsair H110 on push/pull, fan on the back of the case, two fans in the front pushing in....how does that sound?

You might be better off going with a Corsiar H100i because the CM Storm Trooper can accommodate the full radiator.

And as far as sound cards go, I'm a pretty big fan of the ROG Xonar Phoebus. Full 7.1 surround sound and Dolby Home Theater v4 make your games sound fantastic! 😄

I was under the impression that the H110 was a bigger cooling setup. I've seen a picture of a setup where the guy had two fans pulling through the rad into the case and two pushing, but he had to remove the handle to get the second fan in there, don't think I'll be removing anything, gonna stick with two pullers and a good pusher.

The difference between the H110 and the H100i is so little. The H100i cools your CPU like 1C cooler. And it's easier to find a case that supports a 240mm radiator than one supporting a 280mm radiator. 😉

Sorry for my confusing wording. I misread the spec sheet for the CM Storm Trooper. 😛

Cool, I dig it.

I'm still looking at GPU's and it seems like the MSI's are out of stock almost everywhere, do you guys have any experience with Gigabyte Cards? Was looking at the Windforce 760's.

Depending on how much I end up paying off my CC in the next two months, I would even consider SLI 770's, but I'm not 100% sure. (Absolutely enormous maybe, probably way overkill, don't know if my tv can even display massive resolutions yet)

I've used GB cards before. They're decent. Good cooling and quiet.

Well most TVs do 1080p unless you're getting those new 4K ones. SLI GTX 770's is indeed a waste for 1080p. If you budget allows it, get a GTX 780. I'd rather you pick one powerful GPU than using two weaker GPUs.

Yea, I know for a fact my tv does 1080p, I just meant the resolutions higher than that. And you're right, the more and more I read, it'll be either 2x 760's w/ factory overclock+ more overclock, or a single 780+ overclock. But I'm thinking to go with the 760's, more performance, much less price, don't know if or when I'll be gaming on multiple monitors, so even a 4gb card would be useless.
