I just wanted to give an update on this topic in case anyone else wanted to know how the NH-D14 installed in the Maximux V Extreme motherboard worked out for me. I'm the original thread starter but I have to use a different account to post this which is why I have a different user name.
I purchased the G.Skill Ripjaws Z memory modules (32 GB) since they were listed on Noctua's website as being compatible with the NH-D14. They take up all the space under the cooler but they do fit without any problems.
You'll notice that with the first intake fan on the NH-D14 installed it covers all 4 memory slots. So if I wanted to change out the last 2 memory sticks I would have to remove the first fan and if I wanted to change all 4 memory sticks I would have to remove the cooler altogether because the heatsink covers the first 2 memory slots. That would be quite a hassle but since I have 32 GB of memory installed and the speed is sufficient I don't need to remove the memory any time soon. Hopefully they'll last until my next PC.
I just recently purchased a Gigabyte GTX 680 OC edition video card (Model GV-N680OC-2GD) to install in my system and was a bit worried about if it would fit under the NH-D14's fan clips. I had been looking for a video card with a backplate for extra insurance against any fan clip conflicts but I couldn't pass up a good deal on the Gigabyte.
I made sure to wrap the fan clips with some Scotch® Super 33+™ Vinyl Electrical Tape. Thankfully both fan clips don't really make contact with the video card's PCB as far as I can tell. It took a bit of repositioning to get the video card into the first PCI-E slot but I was able to get it installed completely after about 5 minutes of trying to get it in without bumping the card against the fan clips. Not really easy but it's possible.
I'd say overall the cooler fits ok with a Maximus V Extreme and the right memory sticks. I don't think there should be too much problem installing most video cards in the first PCI-E slot unless it has a really thick backplate. In that case you might have to push up the fan clips a bit with the video card's backplate and the fan clips may scratch the backplate a bit unless you do a good job of wrapping them with heat shrink tubing.
