Hi, I am putting together a new system:

Cput: intel 7800x
MB: Tuf Mark II X299
VC: Asus 1070I
HD: WD 4TB
PS: Corsair HX850
Memory: Corsair 2400
Others: Asus Hyper M.2 X16 card, with three M.2 drives: Samsung EVO 250gb x1, EVO 500gb x2

I have the video card on PCIexpress slot_1 and Hyper card on PCIexpress slot_2. The CPU Storage in the bios is set to : PCIexpress Slot_1 disabled, PCIexpress Slot_2 Hyper m.2 data only.
In the PEG Port Configuration, the PCIEX16_1 is set to x16 but PCIEX16_2 is "Not Present". The system does not see any of the m.2 drives in the hyper m.2 card. So, I changed the configuration and inserted the video card on to PCIEX16_2 and hyper m.2 card on to PCIEX16_1. All the m.2 drives were read. In the Peg Port Configuration the PCIEX16_1 was set to 16x but PCIEX16_2 was set to 8x. I spent some of money for a fast video card and i dont want it to be in 8x mode instead of 16x. I two out the 250gb m.2 drive so it would be two drive 4x x 2= 8x in PCIEX16_2 but none of the drives were recognized. Is this because the hyper m.2 x16 is a 16x card, do i have to cover half of the board with electric tape so it would appear as 8x board to the system. I appreciate any help with this problem.

The 7800x is a 28 lane cpu and that gives you 16 lanes for pciex16_1 and 8 lanes for pciex16_2. Pciex16_3 is disabled having no lanes available for it.

In pciex16_2 2 of the m.2 slots on the HyperX16 will be active and 2 will be dead. I don't recall if it is the top 2 or the bottom 2. That's for you to find out.

It takes a minimum of a 7900x 44 lane cpu to activate all the slots. I retrieved this information from your manual.

Thank you for the reply. In theory that should be the case, but in actuality is not. When I have the hyper card on PCIE slot 2, none of the m.2 drives are recognized. I s only when I have the hyper card in PCIE slot 1 that the drives are recognized.
I even took one of the m.2 drives off of the hyper card and inserted it in to PCIE slot 2, thinking it should work with only two m.2 drives in there. No such lock, neither of the two drives were recognized by the bios. I am at a lost.
