Critique of Possible Upgrade

GHOST2501
Level 7
Hi, totally new here. I was hoping that I could get some critiques or second opinions about my thoughts on upgradinging my system.

Budget: ~£200

Main uses of intended build: Casual Gaming (mainly Emulators but the occasional new game) / Day-to-day web surfing and document use. On occasion I may turn my hand to some video editing.

Parts required: This is what I want to install
RAM -
Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600 Mhz CL9 XMP Blue
GPU -
Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti Graphics Card (2GB, GDDR5, PCI-Express 3.0)

Previous build information (list details of parts): Current setup is as follows
PSU - OCZ ZS Series 650w
Mobo - ASUS PBZ77-V LX2
CPU - Intel Core i5 2400 (Socket1155 LGA)
RAM - 6GB (3x 2GB) Micron Technology (8JTF25664AZ-1G4M1)
GPU - ATI Radeon HD 5450
HDDs - Assortment of Seagates, running an 80GB Barracuda as an OS drive
OS - Win7 Pro

Monitor resolution: 1920x1200

Storage requirements: Already sorted between a few internal and external drives

Will you be overclocking: Maybe, probably not though.

Any motherboard requirements (no. of USB, Xfire/SLI, fan headers): Re-use existing so N/A

Extra information about desired system: as it is at the moment i can run Mario Wii on Dolphin and get 60FPS but if i try to play some other games on different Emulators (like alot of PS2 games) the system as it is just wont cut it and i get low FPS. I also have to turn a lot of new games down graphically to get smooth play (and even that can be jerky).

So, questions or critiques anyone?

Just the 750ti.

R7 265 is a bit better.

Ok thanks. Having read a few comparisons of the two it does look to be a smart choice to swap them for the minimal price increase.

Oh yeah, and maybe a larger HDD for OS.

I've always thought about it, but my idea was to have an 80GB OS, 1TB apps and installs and a 3TB media drive.

Also I had a quick couple of questions.
1 - Looking at it, is the AMD R9 270X or the ASUS R9 270 not be a better choice? I'm finding them for an extra £10-ish from the price of the 750Ti.
2 - As a temporary solution until I can get even more RAM, could I double the Corsair Vengeance with a pair of the old Micron sticks I have and not suffer to much for it? (I've read up about the Vengeance coming out of the box with a 2T command rate set and gaining performance for changing it back to 1T)
3 - How well would my proposed system run SarCraft 2?

Thanks.

intel is picky when it comes to mixing mem kits. so i would recomend to get the amount you want in a single kit.

What about getting one kit of 2x4GB Vengeance now then another later if i want more? Also if I had four sticks could I still change the command rate to 1T? I'm sure i read somewhere that you need it at 2T use dual channel effectively (I was rather tired when reading it so I don't think I took it all in properly).

So the 750Ti has just come down in price so out of these 3, which would be the best choice?

Asus AMD Radeon R9 270 DirectCU II OC 2GB GDDR5 - £139.96

ASUS Radeon R7 265 DirectCU II, 2GB GDDR5 - £133.81

Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB - £119.98

The R9 270x would be optimal.
There is not a big difference between the R7 265 vs the R9 270.
