couple of questions about my first build

hI ya peeps

Just couple of questions about my first ever build that i have now started 🙂

I'll list my components first then ask the questions:

Case - Corsair Obsidian 800D
Mobo - Rampage IV Formula
PSU - Corsair AX850
CPU - I7 3930K
Cooler - Corsair H100 (push/pull config)
GPU - Asus GTX 680 TOP
Storage - OCZ Agility 3 SSD
Ram - G Skill 16gb 2133

Question 1

The RIVF Mobo came with 4 of the 8 ATX12V connector blocks covered up by a plastic clip (can be removed), But the PSU cable for the ATX12V has 2 x 4 pins at the end. Therefore am i supposed to plug both of the 4 blocks in ....OR just the 1 and leave the other out?

Question 2

The PSU came a few 4 pin Molex power cables that all have about 4 molex connections on each wire. I am therefore assuming that i can power multiple things off the one molex cable? For example can i power the Fan controller and the H100 from just one of these cables? Or should i be powering each seperatley?

Many thanks for your help 🙂

Hi there!:) I have two CPU power cables ending in 8 pins. One is one single block and the other ends in a block that can be split into two blocks of four. Either model will work just fine. Take the plastic cap off and plug all 8 pins in.

RE: the molex you can run a few things off them, yes. A fan controller and H100 no problems!

alyraver, I know, you didn't ask, but I think it's worth mentioning that the 800D and H100 are not the best friends... Keep your eyes on temps! if you have issues or questions about how to set up the airflow, just ask! - we're here for you...

I assume that you asked this about the 800D not being good friend with H100... 🙂

So, the 800D is a great case - for water-cooling and modding... It's pretty bad for air-cooling, since doesn't have enough vent openings/fan holes. Your setup, having the H100 in the top and the bottom fans as intakes, with the rear fan as exhaust - it's the best possible one. However, it's far from optimal... 😞

Just calculate how much air you are forcing in and how much is exhausted actively... you've got a positively pressurized system - which by itself isn't good or bad... but the problem is that you can have dead spots, hot air accumulations because of the pour air movement...

Imagine, the hot air is raising (naturally) from the graphic card, meets the hot air from the mobo, then the air exhausted by the H100 is added to it... then all of that suppose to be exhausted outside the case by that single rear fan...

I have both the 800D and H100, and I did play a lot with different airflow configuration... As I said, yours was the best setup - but compared to different cases where is better airflow, the min temps were higher as with >10C! I never had a H80, but I could imagine that it would be better for this case... setup as intake on the rear (this way will get fresh air), and set up the top fans as exhausts... but it won't work with the H100... 😞
