cooling question/dilemma/issue

Has anyone managed to fit an aftermarket RAM cooler like the Gskill Turbulence II under a Noctua NH-D14?

My current idea/build proposition is in regards to the question
Crosshair V Formula-Z
FX-8350
NH-D14 CPU heatsink/fan
2x8 GB Gskill Ares RAM
Gskill Turbulence II RAM Fan

Has anyone managed to get the RAM fan to fit under the CPU cooler? If not that model, is there a model that WILL fit?
Thanks in advance
Case: Cooler Master Storm Trooper
Mobo: Crosshair V Formula-Z
CPU: AMD FX-8350 Lot# 1252PGT
RAM: G.Skill Ares 1866 16Gb (2x8)
HSF: Noctua NH-D14
PSU: KingWin LZP-1000
Optical: LG WH14NS40

It mostly depends on the motherboard layout, and how you have the fans on the D14, you can try having a 2 pull configuration and it should fit that way. Personally i would not bother with the aftermarket RAM cooler, unless you are going for a 2400+ frequency they are pretty useless and create a lot of extra noise

My Build

I7 3730k at 4.7 ghz
H100
16gb Corsair Dominator GT RAM at 1866 mhz
2 x Asus GTX DCU2 670's overclocked at 1258 mhz
1 x 1tb Storage Drive
1 x 2 tb Game Drive
1x 60 gb SSD Boot Drive
CoolerMaster HAF X
Kingwin Lazer 1000w

Noted. I would like to OC to as close to 5 as I can get on air. I was thinking that having the additional cooling on the RAM would lower case temps, which in turn, would allow the CPU cooler to cycle cooler air overall. I'm also planning on OCing the RAM itself which is rated to 1866. However, I don't think I'll get to 2400+.
As far as the layout goes- It's a Crosshair V Formula-Z.
The clearance below the NH-D14 is 44mm but I can adjust the offending fan up slightly.

The measurements on the RAM cooler are 50x50x11

I was wondering if anyone else had a similar setup.

I had the NH-C14 on my CHVF, and the Turbulence II fans wouldn't fit, I don't know if the C14 took up more or less space than the D14, but you will find with a cooler like the Noctua, you won't really need anything on the RAM as the Noctua will be bringing a lot of air across 😉

I found this-

I think I'll go with the Kingston KHX-Fan as even though it looks snug, it fits 🙂

I'm not sure that it will, the RAM in the picture has no radiators, the G Skill Ares has radiators, that are perhaps not the highest radiators on the market, but they will still take up a couple of mm, which I don't think you have judging by the pic.
Also, in the pic, the guy has a 140mm fan on one side of the heatsink and a 120mm above the RAM. Not sure if that is a good idea as the fan speeds and static pressure wont be the same.

Thinking as an after thought, if you already have the Turbulence II (I'm thinking that you may have bought the kit RAM + Turbulence II as I did) If you insist on using fans on the RAM, it may be possible to mod the Turbulence II so that it will blow from an angle, or cut in half and clipped to the top of the mobo (only using 1 of the 2 fans) to blow through the RAM from the top downwards.

Sorry Karmageddon I didn't see your post- I'm going with a CoolerMaster Storm Trooper. Also getting a couple of extra 120mm Sickleflow fans. I know the memory fan may be pointless, but I don't think it will hurt anything. It may help with longevity as well.

Just my 2 cents again. Good luck getting to 5 ghz on air, its not impossible but it will be a challenge, better hope you have a good chip that overclocks well 🙂

Installing a RAM cooler will do little to nothing for lowering your case temps, you would be better off having a fan pointing at the VRM on your board to keep those running cool. Which case do you have?

Thx Granger, that maybe an option that could work- I'll tinker with it and let you know what I come up with.
