Cooler for my new rig

So this have been hard, Im starting to think the world is conspiring against me.

So I'm getting my new ASUS VI Formula this week along with my i7 4770k , the thing that keep eluding me is the cpu cooler.

Im torn between what to get, and some force (bad luck) is making it worse.

I was planning to get a swiftech h320 cooler, whoever when I try to order it there was problem with my shipping address and would not order it, the sad thing was there were only 3 left and while im still trying to fix this with Customer support of the site, they ran out of the cooler. On the plus side i heard the quality control is horrible on them.

So my alternative would be a a Kraken x60 , only this time, i cant find a store whose selling them. I found it on amazon for
$198.51 but it should cost $120 unless i dont know something, I rly dont wanna pay an extra $80 for it.

I been looking into the air coolers and the noctua seem like a good choice, but something about the clipped fan, which also happen on the silver arrow and Phanteks PH-TC14PE turn me off, i keep having this feeling it will somehow drop from the heat sinks and ruin my system (I dont know how i fear this more than a kraken leaking lol)

So I have yet to make up my mind on what I want as a cooler, for case im thinking on getting the switch 810 since its a nice full tower, and i wont be moving it around so the outside cheap plastic dont turn me off since the interior look promising enough.

I already have everything else but the cpu cooler and case, the fact that i have gskills TridentX ram may make some of the mentioned heat sinks incompatible. For gpu is evga geforce GTX 780 ti Kingping

You could grab a Corsair H105.
Or a Noctua NH-D14.

If you intend to go liquid, and aren't concerned with future upgrades to a closed loop system (requiring the Kraken), then I'd recommend an H100i or H105 from Corsair (although I have never used one of these myself, but they are half the price).

If you'd rather go with air: provided you've installed the fans correctly, the chance the clips will suddenly fail and drop your fan onto the board is so remote that you're more likely to be struck by lightening while standing in the basement of the great pyramid at Giza. What you should be aware of, however, is that those big Noctua air coolers are HEAVY and you might want to wire it to the roof of your case to help take some weight off your motherboard.

Edit: A-Man beat me to it, but there's valid info.

Also, if you do go with a big air cooler, you might have to remove the tops from the RAM heat spreaders to ensure the CPU cooler will fit.

Yes I read i need to remove the heat sinks for them to be compatible with the Noctua. The heavy weight was also why i wanted to go for a closed loop system instead of the big sinks. On the other hand, my system wont be moved around once Placed, only when i clean the room but strapping the sinks was something i didnt consider before.

If you mount the fans correctly, those clips will hold them forever... - but certainly you will need to remove the top of the heatspreader of the TridentX memories with Noctua NH-D14...

The closed loop coolers will allow you more space around your CPU...

But............

The NH-D14 is so sexy....

It is! 😄 And very effective too...

I never underestimated air coolers but if you got midt case , the case can not breath with this giant air coolers usually motherboard's tempeture increasing more than cpu. Water coolers always give you more breathing space and you shouldnt remove ram heatsink. You said you will buy full tower so air will be good for you.

Just go with the closed loop cooler so you don't have to compromise on the RAM. You don't see everyone worrying about their PSU exploding and over-amping and blowing everything up do you? Nope. So don't worry about it leaking. I have much more to worry about considering I put my water cooling loop together myself. The pre-built ones are very solid and you'll get great perf without too much bulk.

a closed loop cooler will free up the airflow path through your case, the H100i is a great option. Corsair makes some great products, just beware of Corsair Link2 if you are running Win8, they don't play nice.
