Connecting power to the Asus ROG Rampage Formula IV

Hey Guys.

So i've been wondering, i have the Asus ROG Rampage Formula IV and i've recently had to connect the power on it again, i got to thinking. There is a, if i remember correctly, 4 pin molex connector between the sound plugin and the bottom of the ram dimms, and there is a square 4 pin connector over the cpu socket and some cooling, i'll try to attatch a photo that will illustrate it.

My question is, are these nessesary to plug in? and what is the purpose of powering these. I haven't been able to find anything on what they are, and quite frankly they are a bitch to connect, without having wires running in over the entire mobo, due to the construct of my case.

Thanks for your time 🙂

The 4 pin connector is most definitely needed(the one near the CPU) without it you cannot boot your PC. The Molex connector, is for more than single VGA setups, boosting power and adding in stability, if I remember correctly....or it's for RAM OC stability...one or the other lol

Hope this helps 🙂

Damn.. well the molex one, is the more problematic one to connect nicely. Will anything bad happen if i try to disconnect it?
I mean, is there any chance that something will "blow up" if i disconnect it ? 😄

Thanks for your quick reply man 😄

The best answer is to populate ALL power connectors... you may not necessarily need the extra power, but it makes the power draw more balanced...

That power connector on the upper edge of the mobo is the CPU power... and if you check it more carefully, it's actually a 8-pin connector, just half of it is covered with a small plastic cap... - I would connect all 8-pins...

That 4-pin molex, Myk is right, is for additional power to the graphics cards when you more for SLI... with a single card you don't need it...
