I have an LG Ultrafine Display 5K monitor (1st version, 2017) that is unable to connect to my Nvidia Graphics Card due to the thunderbolt requirement.

I was successful in connecting it to the Maximus Motherboard via Thunderbolt, but the connection only uses the integrated graphics of the 11700k.
I was wondering if I could connect a Thunderbolt port to the Graphics Card via a DP to TB cable and then route the
DP signal to the second TB port attached to the monitor. That way I could take advantage of the Graphic Card.
Would such a setup work? If so, how could I configure the mainboard to use the eGPU signal?
