Booting from NVME Device

I need some assistance in trying to get my Samsung 950 Pro 512GB to boot on my Asus X99 Deluxe/U3.1 new build.

I have updated to the latest BIOS 2101. There is no problem detecting the drive (mounted vertically on the motherboard) and have installed Windows 10 to completion. However, when I boot to the Samsung 950 the screen just has a white prompt, and after a very long time the Windows logo appears and remains that way.

As a test, I successfully installed and ran Windows 10 on an SSD drive using the exact setup. No problems. I also installed the Samsung NVME driver and did a clone of the SSD to the Samsung 950 using the Samsung Data Migration software. Same result as above when I try to boot from the Samsung 950.

I have some experience in building systems with M.2 drives without issues, so this situation is frustration. Please help.
