Boot issues caused by plugging eGPU into mini PCIe?

I have a ROG Srtix SCAR edition (GL703GE) laptop and was hoping to use an eGPU with it. Since my laptop doesn't have a Thunderbolt 3 port, I've read that the next best thing is to connect it via the mini PCIe slot that the Wifi adapter card usually occupies. When I do this, this is what happens; if I don't try to access the BIOS on the first boot up, it works fine, but anytime after that first time it won't boot up properly. So I'm wondering if it is, in fact, the eGPU causing the issue, and if there is anyway to have it not do that.
