Bios update for GTX Titan

Bottlegone

Hi guys I wonder if you could help me out.
I updated the bios off the Asus site for my Titan and it worked fine now it is at 80.10.39.00.0A

I have purchased another card from Asus but it will not let me upgrade the Bios it's set at 80.10.2c.00.06

I get an error message like this one Click image for larger version

29951

I have tried updating with just the new card, no joy and tried different slots and still no joy.
I am running windows 8.1 64 bit Pro
Any help would be much appreciated.

Well, the thing is that I'm not updating anything which works correctly... If it's not broken, don't fix it, you know...

Yes I agree but can you tell me is the card working correctly?
The answer is no or is it yes that's the reason for this post.

You do not update just because it is not broken? do you update your graphic card to the latest driver?
your driver is not broken is it but the new one may give your card a hefty boost in games and the like.

Any way this is getting way off topic I am looking for help if possible which seems you cannot provide but thanks for your input

Thank you for reply the best input all day.
the executable does not work with my new card but it does on my old one?
and I am looking to get eventually a 4k monitor so I think this update is important.
I have looked at the site you mentioned and I will give it a try.
I am more concerned that my new card could be faulty and I do have the choice to RMA it or keep it, you know these cards are not cheap.
I will try the update tomorrow from what you have given me and fingers crossed it works.
This update is important to me for the future of 4k that I will be going for but my concern is the card faulty I do not know ?
Thank you for your help Arne.

My help was in the post #5: "Use nvflash from a bootable USB stick... updating BIOS from OS isn't a very good idea…"

Regarding the updates, even it would seem out of topic (actually is on topic): I never update anything just for the sake of update!
BIOS and driver updates are for fixing something which is went bad in previous version or add new features. Unfortunately, most of the time the updates also make bad things… don't forget, the next update will fix what the first one brake… - hence, once you find a version of BIOS/drivers which works for you, just stick to it!

You can get the BIOS from here http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/index.php?architecture=NVIDIA&manufacturer=Asus&model=GTX+TITAN&i... and flash it, as Zka has said, from nvflash on a USB stick. GPU tweak is not showing that updated BIOS as you know from the thread in the Nvidia GPU section. and if your executable is not working then you will have to return the card if this is important to you.

This BIOS addresses an issue for 4K screens. If you don't have one I wouldn't bother flashing either...it's just advice any of us would give...

I have two Titans and have not flashed anything because I do not have a 4K screen...there is no performance increase in this BIOS.

No worries Bottlegone....if you are going to move to 4K then you will want the update and yes you should be able to update it...I can't help with ideas for why it's not flashing.....have you tried deleting the update file and downloading a fresh version....running it as administrator...things like that? SLI disabled etc....

At the end of the day flashing the BIOS yourself (not using the ASUS file) might void the warranty even though you would be doing the same thing as the asus file..so you might want to return the card.

If the card is performing correctly then I'm sure there is nothing wrong with it...maybe there is a problem with the file not seeing the cards ID properly for flashing etc. but I doubt this means the card is not working to spec...just a pain for what you are trying to do.

Thanks for all your input guys I have saved the bios of each card so I can all ways go back if I want but after your last post Arne I think I will leave it a while as I do not have a 4k monitor yet but when I do I will flash only if needed taking your advice ZKA17 and yours Arne.
Thanks guys.
