best video card under 100 bucks... my old card died today

i finally got the sabertooth 990fx and the fx cpu running pretty smooth, and the vid card fan actually came apart and fell out. it was an old xfx 8600gts, so it was due. my budget is 100 bux. every place I look I find different stories, seems like everyone pushes what they want to sell, I thought I would ask here, since no body here has anything to gain. ive got the fx8350 on the sabertooth fx990 with 16gb of gskill ram. I mostly do photoshop stuff, as well as some video edit and mild games, however, I have been wanting to game a bit more since I have a rig that will work well with games now. im not hard core. ive found a evga 740gt for 89, but I see that many of the ati based cards seem to review better. ANY ideas and thoughts would be great.

Thank You

Hello mikesjoint

As you know the gpu is one of the more expensive parts in a gaming pc, that is for a high end gpu. if you want to game at good framerates you're going to need something a little better than the 740gt, especially if you want to play the newer games.

If you can swing this it will be better than the gt740. $129.99 after rebate.

Thank you, I had the thoughts to come home today and order a card, but now I can't get this rig to come up. I have to take 2 steps back and figure out why it won't boot. I can get to bios, so I feel like I have some sort of possible hardware conflict. But it was running fine, for 3 days now. I noticed the led light on the board was on that showed for the boot device.maybe I have a driver issue or something with the hard drive. But it was fine,,even after the gpu fan fell off,, this is a little disheartening . Thank you for the gpu advice. You ROG members are first class..

GL on getting that rig to boot again 😄

100$ is indeed a bit low for a new GPU imo especially if you want to game more. Like the others suggested try to get a good deal on a last generation card or even something second hand until you are willing to spend a bit more.
The rest of your system should do fine for gaming in the coming years especially if you upgrade it with a high end GPU someday 😃

Btw. have you thought about GPU acceleration for Photoshop and video editing? OpenCL / CUDA are usually a lot faster than CPU cores when the program supports it.

Hey mikesjoint

Your motherboard should be giving you a code, what code is it stopping on when you try to boot?

All those codes are listed in your manual, take a look in there and tell us what code it's stopping on and what it's referring to.
