I want to run two GPUs on my strix b650e-f mobo. I know sli is dead and am not intending to go that route. I will use a 4090 in pcie 1 for gaming on 3 monitors and a 3060 in the bottom pcie slot for background applications running on 2 more monitors. I am not using the 3rd m.2 as I think doing that disables the bottom pcie slot based on the mobo user manual guidance. I think the 2nd pcie works run at x4 which should be ok, but for some reason the 3060 is not being recognized by windows sort of like the pcie slot is disabled completely. Any advice on running a second GPU in the bottom pcie slot?

Updating my post. Further research indicates that most Mobos only really have a 2nd or 3rd pcie slot that while full width will only run at x4 speed (not the x16 speed needed for most GPUs). I did find a few gpus meant for ITX builds that run on x4 speed and may work for this light use case of a few 1080p screens for background tasks. I tried a 3060 and it didn’t work despite having adequate power supplied to it but the bios and windows won’t recognize it. Will try amd RG 6650xt which is one of the few gpus made that run on the older x4 speed. It would work well for this use case and still be 5x better in performance than the integrated GPU that is part of the Ryzen 7000 series cpus. Will report back if the x4 speed GPU won’t work for any reason.
