Most TUF F15 models will accept 2280 NVMe drives (the 990/980 PRO physically fit), but only the primary M.2 slot is guaranteed full PCIe-4 speeds — the second slot is often limited or wired as PCIe-3 on some SKUs. Put a 990 PRO w/ heatsink in the primary slot for full Gen4 performance, check the service/manual to confirm your exact F15 model’s M.2 wiring, update the BIOS, and verify there’s enough clearance for the pre-fitted heatsink. If the second slot is Gen3, you’ll still be fine using a fast SSD there, but it won’t reach PCIe-4 top speeds.
