Asus Proart x670e-Creator Wifi Motherboard with KSM56E46BD8KM-48HM ECC UDIMM?

I would like to build a system with a Ryzen R9 9950X CPU, Asus Proart x670e-Creator Wifi Motherboard and 2 sticks of KSM56E46BD8KM-48HM ECC UDIMM Ram Sticks for a combined total of 96GB of ECC reporting RAM.

I was hoping someone could offer insights into whether this is a reasonable endeavour and is likely to work.

For reference, here are the options I have considered in total with my preferred choice underlined:

  • KSM48E40BD8KM-32HM - The assured option (as it is listed on the official QVL page for the board), but one that does not offer as much RAM as I would prefer. I assume the limit to 4800 MT/s, excluding higher MT/s rates, is likely due to the limitations of the 7000 series. However, the official specs of the 9000 series seem to lift this restriction, as seen with "2x2R DDR5-5600" listed under max memory speed vs the "2x2R DDR5-5200" speed for the 7000 series equivalent (the 7950X).
  • KSM56E46BD8KM-32HA - A backup option if the former is hard to source and I can't go with the latter. This has a higher transfer rate but worse timings at "DDR5-5600 timing of 46-45-45 at 1.1V".
  • KSM56E46BD8KM-48HM - My preferred option, which allows for 50% more memory with 2 sticks, at a higher transfer rate but with worse timings compared to the QVL option with "DDR5-5600 timing of 46-45-45 at 1.1V".

I would appreciate some insight if anyone has done similar and has anything to share or if an ASUS rep could provide more context for this planned build.

Hi @ECC_MEM_FOR_ALL , this category is for people who already own the boards and need help. Your question is better suited in one of the other categories on this forum where people help out with build related questions as they will not see it here. Maybe a moderator like @Silent_Scone can move your move post to the appropriate place.

With regards to your question, I encourage you to read https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/technologies-explained/memory-kits-overclocking-and-what-you-may-not-k... post as well as my comment which takes you to a YouTube video with a person from ASUS North America explaining things about memory. Since you are trying to add lots of memory, you will have to give up speed. You cannot have both. As this video will explain.

I hope this information will help you decide what you really need. Good luck!

Hello, @ECC_MEM_FOR_ALL

Thank you for reaching out to us.
Based on your description, it seems you are still planning to purchase PC hardware rather than encountering any software or hardware issues.
Therefore, I have moved your thread to the HARDWARE & BUILD ADVICE section.
Meanwhile, the ROG forum is specifically for discussions related to the ROG or TUF gaming series products.
If you have inquiries regarding non-gaming series motherboards, we recommend posting your discussion on Zentalk>Motherboard.

Thank you.

As the local holiday is ongoing, there may be further delays in responses.
We appreciate your patience in advance.
