Asus Prime z60-p-d4 with Asus VA32UQ monitor not able to enter UEFI (bios) setup

To enter setup via delete key I first have to turn the monitor off then back on while starting the computer. Otherwise the monitor just goes into a loop between black and blue screens.
I now get into the UEFI with windows recovery options.
I tried other monitors and this problem is not present. Onboard video or discreet card is the same with the VA32UQ.
I'm connecting with an HDMI cable and have tried other HDMI cable as well.
Any ideas as what the problem here is?

[SOLVED] I had pretty much given up on solving this issue but while cleaning my fan screens I decided to swap out the HDMI cable for a Display Port cable. Now it boots into UEFI as it should without having to turn the monitor off and back on.
