ASUS Maximus V RAM compatibility

Hi,
I am currently in the process of building a PC and I only found out once my motherboard arrived that the RAM I had bought was not compatible with it. As such I have returned said RAM and instead am thinking of ordering this RAM http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f319200cl10q32gbzhd

It states in the manual that this should be ok and compatible yet when I look at it online it states that it is made for a se2011 processor and a x79 motherboard. As such I was wondering if it would work with and i7 3770k and the Maximus V Extreme. I want to use this RAM as I have a Noctua NH-D14 meaning G.Skill is one of the few manufacturers which will fit with the fan.

On another note I was also wondering if I could place my graphics card in the second PCi slot or if this would cause it to not work as fast. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated,
Hal

I would start with my system outside of the case. Do all the set up and testing with your mobo box as the test bench.

Take things slow and methodical. The journey is as much fun as the outcome.

Ok so should I remove the motherboard from the case as I had already put everything in when the error 55 was shown.

I would mate, you want to have as few variables as possible when you are problem solving. And since you had some hassles first time up.

Would you simply recommend placing the motherboard straight on top of the case or will this cause damage to the bottom of the motherboard when I insert the graphics card and cooler and RAM.

The reason why I suggest the motherboard box is quite simple. It is non conductive, so there is no risk of an electrical short.

Cool but I was just checking if any damage might be sustained to the bottom as it is not on the gold support screws.

Your motherboard box is made from cardboard yes? If so then no worries.

One last question although this thread is getting a little old. I have the 32gb ripjaws Z and both the motherboard manual and g.skill website say it should work yet on the side of the Maximus V extreme box it states it is dual channel ddr3. Does this mean it will in fact not work?

Four sticks or ram do not quad channel make. You can run dual channel with four sticks or ram.

The only platform that has quad channel is the LGA 2011 (X79) - your memory is intended for the X79 platform yes - the Z tells us that. But they will work just fine and will work as the Maximus board intended. 🙂

Oh ok great because everywhere I have looked states that it should be compatible yet I panicked when I read Dual-Channel on the isde of the box. 😛
