Hey ROG members & guest, 🙂
I decided to start a thread of my new ASUS MAXIMUS V EXTREME, 1155 - Z77 build here in the forums so as to ask questions & possibly learn some highly classified intel & in the process help others. I would like to ask those whom post to this thread to provide intel that one can varify with ease, I.E. web links / pictures ect. ect.! I've found there are THOUSANDS out there whom simply want to learn as I do yet they find obstacles at every corner & are unable to be successful due to the lack of examples & possible broken knowledge per say!
I will provide pictures of each of my selections & web links when I get fully registered to the site as I'm sure I will be here serveral times updating & reviewing! I want this build to be exciting as possible yet I want others to give their opinions & in return this will possibly help others have a successful build. With all that being said, I appreciate your participation! THANK YOU 🙂

* represents items that MAY BE REQUIRED depending on the way you choose to spec your system.

NOTE: The below selected items are items I selected for my system build & may not reflect requirements or desires from what you may choose yet this system is all compatable yet there are variences of which will improve or decrease performance depending on our selection.

----- HELPFUL TIP -------
One thing I can add that may be benifical to ANY build reguardless is to print out a COMPLETE MANUAL !

Motherboard type: Intel

Socket: 1155

Chipset: Z77

(1) Case - CoolerMaster HAFX 942 ( Red Edition)
link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119225
WHY: I purchased one when I did my last build & it is a AWESOME case & allows for any expansion & has EXCELLET cooling capabilities & is well designed & easy to keep clean. One downfall is it ONLY comes with one of the top 200mm cooling fans & if you plan on using the GPU DUCT FAN it is also NOT INCLUDED.

cost: $189.99
14454

*additional 200mm fan - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103072
cost: $21.99
WHY: Because the case only comes with one fan mounted in the top & my build will require 2.
14456

* additional 120mm fan - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103091
cost: $8.99
WHY: Because the case GPU cooling Duct does not come with a 120mm fan which some may view it as an option however I consider it essiential on GPU cards that are NOT watercooled.

(20) Thermal Compound - Prolimatech PRO PK3
link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835242028
cost: $6.49
WHY: I've read articles on how thermal compound can effect your CPU's cooling & the stock paste may seem to be sufficient yet I don't trust it, in reguards to sealed cooling systems & stock cooling fans. May sound silly but if you do some reasearch you'll find during benchmark test, systems have different results in the degrees due to thermal compounds therefore I'm willing to make sure I know it is good.

This concludes the list of the selected items I have for this build yet I do know I have a 24pin extension cable of which I may possibly need / use & an additional 8pin extension for the power supply I may use as well. I will update this again as I go along with the build. I hope you like my selections & help me & others achieve success so share your thoughts!

Welcome to the ROG boards, GUNNY1966. Good choices you've made there.

If you want to further bling the HAF X, you'll need to get another 200mm red LED fan for the side panel, and another 140mm or 120mm for the back exhaust because the ones that come with the case is a boring black. If you want more lighting, look into the NZXT HUE or their cheap sleeved leds. They'll make the insides of your case look wicked.

You know what would make the rig look even cooler? Sleeved cables to match the ROG themes. If you're not into sleeving your cables, you can get the Bitfenix Alchemy cable extensions for the CM 1200W Pro Gold. They come in variours colors to work with.

Regarding the NZXT Sentry fan controller, I always wanted one of those too because they look pretty sweet but I've read a lot of reviews about it making the 200mm CoolerMaster fans produce a rattle. Apparently the controller doesn't have enough amps to power those fans. So you might want to check into that.

I don't think you'll need the thermal compound to be honest. In the past, Corsair H100 used thermal pound from Shin-Etsu which is one of the top of the line TIM.

@ Chino------ Yea, but that is right now out-side of my budget constraints 😞 ! I'll get some lighting soon enough but for now I want the hardware! 🙂

Q U E S T I O N : I'm going to be installing this Control Panel --> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811999243 into the case & was wondering about the wiring & would like a technical answer. The Fan expert mentioned in chapter 4-28 in the manual doesn't mention using a controller panel outside of the ASUS software, Fan Xpert SO the QUESTION IS, CAN YOU use a Y-splitter & use the control panel for the case fans AS WELL as use the Fan Xpert2 at the same time WIRED TOGETHER or is this a BAD IDEA? Good Question I thought as I like TOTAL control!

TIP ------------------> *** UPDATE *** If you intend to use the on-board temp sensors to monitor temps, ASUS does NOT include the three temp sensor wires needed & you will need three of these ( http://www.frozencpu.com/products/10767/cab-195/FrozenCPU_Temperature_Probe_Cable_-_2-Pin_-_28.html?... ) . The reason is found on page 1-50 # 13 in the manual.

Some folks like the fan expert stuff. Me I do not at all.

Me I say go with the fan controller and that way you have independent control of your fans. That gives you total control.
