I was thinking of getting this card, and installing it in a maximus v gene with a xonar phoebus. Will the sound card restrict the airflow, as it is placed right under the gfx card.

It will restrict the airflow to a certain extent but you have nothing to worry about. Unlike GPUs, sound cards don't emit any heat. So your GTX 680 will still be getting cold air instead of hot air coming out of a GPU in a SLI setup.

It will restrict a bit but these cards are big! and the right hand fan will probably be mostly uncovered and that is where the VRM for the card is and where you would want uninterrupted flow.

Apart from that the space of one slot will be enough to give pretty good flow...the card is in the x4 slot at the bottom right?

How long is that sound card from the back of the case?

Well, the sound card has to be in that lower black slot... otherwise they won't fit... - the GTX680 DC2T hangs over the second red PCIe slot...

I actually would consider the 4GB version of the Asus GTX680 DC2 cards... it's only a two slot one (won't have to worry about cooling) and you have more VRAM... 🙂

Thanks for all the replies, I'll think this through. 🙂

I'm fixing to pickup one of these cards myself, right now I'm running the GTX 560ti and I was wondering if there would be any benefit in running them in SLI or just doing away with the 560 all together.
