8GB vs 12GB ( which better )

i have a 4gb ram 2133mhz (SK hynix) in my laptop

i bought a new 8gb ram 2666mhz (kingston)

should i put both of them or just the 8gb ram?
and tell me why ?

4 gigs to 8 gig doesn't seem like a huge boost. Why not jump to 16?

I was going to go from my 16gigs 2133 to 16gigs 3200 but a friend told me it would be marginal performance. Decided to save the $120.
