[Unsloved] Installation failed Error code:501

Instead of telling people to use the uninstall tool and try reinstalling again, it should say your servers are down because it wasted my entire sunday.......

Black screen before the AC logo appears all of the sudden at startup : ( only played games for the last week, just opened it this morning )

when attempting to do a clean install after the uninstall tool:

ROG0111_0-1727665314853.png

the AC is trying to install rog live services during this time , the updater of this specific package is completely ignoring the executable that is in the package and goes online to download it, but the website it goes to download returns an error and here we go :

ROG0111_0-1727652473901.png

Please add offline installer....
I even tried to install the executables manually from the temporary folder and it failed on aura service (but you can ignore it) and it gave black screen on the rog Ally X when I am online, if I am offline I can enter in armoury crate but some stuff like updates is not working (after going online) and if I restart the device while being online, it goes back again to the blackscreen before the logo  .

I initially had a black screen on the Armoury Crate SE that is why I uninstalled and tried to reinstall.... probably it tried to install something online at opening ....

I will be waiting for the servers Rog Live Services to come back online tomorrow so I can install Armoury Crate SE since I completely uninstalled it using the cleaner.

Lets bring those servers back online and make an offline installer as well please. And maybe not get black screen on AC before the logo appears since it is probably connecting to the Rog Live Services or something.

I had some issues where control center was crashing when it was open every time I moved on it and the lighting led was crashing too I guess since it was reseting itself every 10 seconds, so had no choice but to uninstall armoury crate apps and resintall
Surprise surprise on trying to install again , I got the error 501 again ............. and the bigger surprise is that I tried 20 of different VPN servers, even tried a hotspot still 501. That weird ACSetup.exe iconless is consuming 0% from the cpu and just remains there.

So now I am guessing there is an issue with the armoury uninstaller that corrupts something so you can't reinstall it and need to refresh windows, but why it did not worked the first time after I refreshed windows and has to use a vpn is beyond me.

I am not gonna waste any more time on this, I guess it will remain unsolved and a mystery. Will use macrium reflect to recover and restore at high speed if I have problems with Armoury Crate in the future instead of using the uninstaller for AC.

So everyone should have a full working and ready partition (to not have to reinstall every time again everything) and once you are satisfied with the partition, you make a backup of it and restore it when you need it. The games need to be on the secondary partition that is bigger.

Also to restore the game library after a partition restore (for now unless a future update changes something) :

Since it is the same version of ACSE, it is not breaking anything by just copying the images folder and the GameLibrary as far as I can see, everything is running smoothly now and I don't have to waste an hour by adding the images again and the executables.

1. Stop Armoury Crate SE service
2. Copy the 2 folders to the new installation %appdata%\Local\Packages\B9ECED6F.ArmouryCrateSE_qmba6cd70vzyy\LocalState\AC_FDS %appdata%\Local\Packages\B9ECED6F.ArmouryCrateSE_qmba6cd70vzyy\LocalState\GameLibrary
3. Start Armoury Crate Se service (important)
4. The game library will be there again with all the backgrounds
5. And use restore from the AC interface to get back the gamepad configs

With MacriumPE, I can restore the Windows partition in under a minute, complete with a fresh Windows installation, all settings, updates, and AC SE working perfectly. I have 375 GB ( too much I will make it 150GB maybe for 5 backups ) available for backups of the Windows partition when it’s running smoothly. If an update causes issues or AC goes bad all of the suden, I can quickly revert to a previous state because game save files are soft-linked to the game partition.

Of course, I create a backup partition when making significant changes to the device, like an update, and I do this every month or so. It’s also important to test the update to ensure everything is working fine before making the backup—there’s no point in backing up something that’s broken.

Plus, there’s no need for an external USB-C drive since the backup data is stored internally from the start, that is why it takes a minute to backup and restore, very quick.

I use this to avoid the hassle of reinstalling Windows and redoing settings multiple times. It’s been a real time-saver for me.

Hi @ROG0111 ,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. After verifying, the Armoury Crate SE server is running normally. Error code: 501 may be due to network issues or other problems. Please try reinstalling Armoury Crate SE and see if it works properly.

If the issue persists, kindly install the Armoury Crate Lite Log Tool and record a video of the reinstallation process of Armoury Crate SE. Please share the log with us, and provide the following information via private message for further investigation. Thank you for your cooperation.

  • Serial number:
  • BIOS version:
  • Windows Build Version: (Settings > System > About)

Sorry I know it is not your fault. I am honestly boiling and I think I will have to create my own launcher in C# because it is ridiculous...,

I did a reset PC on the entire partition with the windows. I go to install Armoury Crate and it gets stuck at preparring to install and after that I get 501 error, (same) are you sure it is not a server issue ?

ROG0111_0-1727729925381.png

How is this possible, I reset the PC windows with the default windows OS that comes from stocks and the launcher breaks like this ? And 501 is a well known code for a network or server issue not my installation.
If on a clean windows, I get this, it means the installer is trash.

I quit using Armoury, I will find another way cuz I am not in the mood to look at this any further, but thanks.

Someone came up with a solution,

I used a VPN in New York and for some reason the entire installation passed with success.
I am in Armoury now

ROG0111_0-1727731329362.png

Strange I use my network and it works fine for everything else, I have 2 other PCs one of them is running 24/7 doing various stuff. Not sure what the issue is, could be at ISP level.
Still a network issue should not cripple the AC SE launcher

Now I am scared to get off the VPN or I will get the black screen again.

If that happens I will turn off automatic start for Armoury to make sure I am connected to the VPN first.

If anyone gets error 501 : try to restart your router too, never tried this for anything ever since it did not seem necessary but for this launcher sadly it is dependent to an external server and can't operate if that server is online but can't receive the data aka error 501.
