ROG Ally X Speakers not working

Arcane35Z

Hello,

Two days ago, the speakers on my Ally X suddenly started to crackle whenever the volume got too loud (I think?), but after restarting my device about two times, the problem went away and the speakers were functioning like normal.

Then, ever since I turned it on yesterday my Ally X suddenly has absolutely no audio coming out of its speakers, and I've been trying to troubleshoot this ever since.

Audio doesn't come out under any circumstances from the speakers (the boot up jingle doesn't play either, which likely means is not a driver / Windows problem), and the only way to get sound is by connecting an external sound device via Bluetooth.

I've already attempted the following:

  • Disabled Dolby Atmos & Windows Sound Enhancement
  • Disable / Uninstalled Realtek Audio Drivers so that they Reinstalled upon Reboot
  • Updated all system Drivers & BIOS to their latest versions
  • Complete Reinstall of Windows OS via ASUS Cloud Recovery

Is there anything else I could try?, I just find it weird that BOTH speakers can just stop functioning out of the blue like that, and since I don't live in the US, getting this sent back for repairs (and then getting it sent back after that) would be a big headache for me.

Thanks

Update: I tried to disconnect & reconnect the speaker connector inside the Ally X motherboard today, but unfortunately it didn't work either. Both speakers seemed to just have suddenly died.

Update 2: I restarted my Ally X today without really doing anything new and the sound came back on the speakers... I restarted a few times after that to make sure it wasn't a fluke and It's still there. I'm glad it works again, but the whole thing is still very weird...
