The SD Card Reader Hardware isn't even showing up in my devices list when trying to look into updating/reinstalling drivers. I just bought a microsd card today to try and add storage for more games, and come to see that on my Ally it seems the hardware isn't even connected/showing up at all. Help.

Have you managed to message anyone yet? If not, please share a screenshot so I can report a problem with the system.

You have highlighted every problem possible and continued to spam the thread without taking the first step to resolving the issue as requested last week, and that is to provide your SN and RMA number. If you cannot PM me then please try another moderator. If the system will not allow it, please take a screenshot of the error message so we can resolve it. Any further flaming posts without verification that you have indeed purchased and RMA'd the device at a certified service center will result in an instant and permanent ban.

There is a private message function in the forum, it is next to your profile icon on the top right. Please try that.

I realise that this is not the issue, but have you tried putting the microSD card into another device? Mine (128 GB Kingston) still works fine in anything but the Ally. So the reader died (doesn't even show up in device manager anymore) but it didn't destroy the card in the process.

There does not seem to be a real solution to the sd problem. Asus has yet to comment if a different software driver would fix some of the issues as Apple experienced with the same part on the Macbook. At this point since Asus is not giving refunds for sd cards, the best option is to replace the ssd with a 2 tb one. Forget the experiments with different brands and capacity micro sd cards. The argument that you paid so much for the device and it should work completely while valid, is not going to save you when your sd card stops working.
I have never used any sd card in the Ally to avoid this issue. I have no idea if my sd slot works. I watched a couple of videos on replacing the ssd and it was a super easy replacement. I save my sd cards for my Steam Deck and my Switch.

They are not going to fix it. I requested RMA and they never got back to me and just ignore my emails. I tried returning to best buy but they would not take it. Asus basically told me "too bad" and won't fix it. Never buy Asus. I have already stopped 5 of my friends from getting one. Just tell people what's going on and discourage them from buying anything Asus. There is not a fix for the SD reader and they will not make on

@asus, may I suggest a (very naïve) solution? Offer ROG Ally early adopters who have reported a failed microSD card reader one of your fancy high-wattage docks as compensation/settlement. These go for about 70€ in my region, which is no doubt much cheaper than the labour and parts cost of (repeatedly) fixing the device. I would accept such an offer. As I said before, the inconvenience of sending my Ally for repair is huge, as I purchased it as a laptop replacement (so it is now my default computer). It even makes logical sense since having the additional USB port provides an alternative to microSD card as storage solution.

That would be awesome.

Mine works sometimes an not others i was hoping the sd card reader wasn’t broke but I'm 99% mine is and I always used a much faster fan curve to help it run cool. This really sucks and i know it will take weeks. Just turned it on today and the sd cards not showing up again, sometimes taking it in and out help but i think it’s finally dead 💀
