ROG Ally SD Card Reader Not In Devices

Bloombud

The SD Card Reader Hardware isn't even showing up in my devices list when trying to look into updating/reinstalling drivers.  I just bought a microsd card today to try and add storage for more games, and come to see that on my Ally it seems the hardware isn't even connected/showing up at all.  Help.

Yep, I have had my Ally since day one, card reader failed, all the above symptoms and down probably 8 top end cards trying to sort it! I feel that ASUS should refund and I return the unit as clearly even the fan settings in updated firmware does not fix the machine and I am left with a unit that’s basically scrap as no one will buy it due to its faults and ASUS lack of repair, remake strategy! May be I can get a viral on my YouTube channel setting it on fire lol!

Hi @VORTEX_RCUK ,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. May I confirm if you have already sent your ALLY for repair? Most users have found their card reader issues resolved after repair. We've noticed that some users haven't arranged for repairs yet. Regarding cases where issues persist after repairs, we are currently investigating to understand the situation better. Thank you

Hi, as of yet I’m unable to send the device in for so called repair, firstly I don’t have three weeks to wait as I work travelling the world, secondly, it seems that yes, you fit another part for it to fail straight after in the same way! Until you modify these units this in my opinion isn’t fixed! If I could replace the unit and not have to wait 3 weeks, I could swallow that but really, until ASUS really do fix the problem permanently, I feel it’s a complete waste of everyone’s time!

The Ally is not “worthless” as it works fine using an ssd or an external sd drive, but instead is “worth less” as it’s resale value is less than it could be due to the sd reader.  I no longer believe that an updated sd drive driver will solve the issue.  However, a redesign moving the sd drive to the bottom of the case would fix the issue, assuming that there will be an Ally 2.0.

When I say worthless, if the likes of Game and CEX won’t buy it because it’s faulty, it’s worthless! ASUS needs to grow some! Partial refund, apology, remove listing that units have SD, turn off the reader permanently in bios or, re design and exchange!

Never buy Asus. Just tell everybody you know not to get any aces products this is just like their chip all over again. My SD card reader doesn't work and now my Asus won't charge. I'm half convinced that the company took my product serial number and during an update they sabotaged my unit. Had an argument with one of their moderators in here and they banned me for a bit. They agreed to pay for my shipping label and packaging but I don't trust Asus and I don't know if I'll ever even get the unit back so I'm not going to send it. The experience I've had with them has been just horrible I'm never buying an Asus product again.
