Several people have reported this issue on Reddit; I've encountered it myself as well.
I created this thread on the ROGAllyX subreddit to try and gather info, no one else has added to it yet but it also has links to all the other threads I've seen about this matter: https://www.reddit.com/r/ROGAllyX/comments/1eoch1d/rog_ally_x_black_screen_crashes_has_it_happened/
Wondering if anyone can shed any more light on the cause and/or workarounds, or if an upcoming update is going to sort it.

hey guys,
just wanna check if you guys are getting responses from ROG Representatives?
I have been trying to get a hold of them to submit my dump report. but even then there is like 0 acknowledgement.
I posted here as well as direct messaging.

Hey there they usually will reach out via direct message on here, and for a time I didn't even realized they had sent me a direct message before. Check your inbox on here first. Also, I want to add: I did what others did here and reset the RTC clock, but I so did a full cloud recovery first because I upgraded the SSD while also dual booting with Bazzite. And so far, on either windows or Linux the issue isn't happening anymore. It would happen with any game but the most egregious is Diablo 4. I'm gonna give it a week before I report back.

thank you for the response sir. Rep has just gotten back. They were on a long holiday break i reckon. managed to get through to them.
Do keep us posted on your findings for EC reset and clean windows install. Hopefully all goes well!

I was hopeful the RTC reset worked but I just experienced a crash again after two weeks without one. I think I'll just stick to my laptop until Asus fixes this issue. My patience is spent.

****** I was hopeful for a bit, in the meantime I'm using Bazzite and it hasn't happened yet

I've shared my log files with the Asus team in hopes that they can get this fixed, it's getting really intolerable now and, as others have said, making the console literally unplayable while this bug persists.

Just to add - I've been wary of even bothering to try using my Ally X in handheld mode anymore (I probably will eventually, on the offchance if nothing else that it helps collect logs), though I have used it very extensively docked (both for gaming and for general desktop usage) and have had no crashes while doing so. It really does seem to be exclusive to handheld mode - the question being why. The Y button seems to be the promising lead based on other peoples' comments, but if it were me, I'd also be investigating whether it's to do with running on battery (I should try that sometime - run the Ally X docked, but without a power source connected so that it's running on battery, and see if I have issues).

I am also having the issue and would like to talk to a service rep, please. I'm on bios 308. thanks.

I am having this problem on Bazzite. I only play in handheld mode and I am on Bios 308. It happens a lot when playing Rogue Trader. Other times it happens randomly and I will be able to play for hours before it crashes. The one common factor as people have pointed out it seems to happen whenever I press the Y button on the controller.
