Several people have reported this issue on Reddit; I've encountered it myself as well.
I created this thread on the ROGAllyX subreddit to try and gather info, no one else has added to it yet but it also has links to all the other threads I've seen about this matter: https://www.reddit.com/r/ROGAllyX/comments/1eoch1d/rog_ally_x_black_screen_crashes_has_it_happened/
Wondering if anyone can shed any more light on the cause and/or workarounds, or if an upcoming update is going to sort it.

I waited for abit before replying to test this out but you're right mapping Y to M2 solves the issue entirely.
I was DMed by a service rep and provided with the 310 Bios. However, it didn't solve the Y issue for me either provided the .win infomation hopefully they can resolve this issue soon.

No updates yet. The bios does not fix it. The asus rep on this forum wants a video of it happening in real time just haven't had time due to the holidays right now

I am so disappointed in how this has yet to be resolved since its release. I've tried everything under the sun to avoid the dreaded black screen: turned off virtualization, reset Windows, turned off graphical settings. It happens on both 25 and 30w settings and it only happens when I press the Y button. Sometimes it happens as short as 10 minutes, the most I got was an hour at one point. I only play one game on my Ally X, Zenless Zone Zero, because any other game I'd try to play would have its data lost to a black screen of death. I've been getting these crashes since early November and I don't remember these crashes happening sooner than that.
And I can't reach the M buttons. Even if I could the game I play would make it pretty difficult to use.
I've done the ETC reset and increased the CPU power to 12G. Will test out more later if it prevents it but I highly doubt it.

I've also seen people report that setting GPU memory to "Auto" rather than a fixed amount helps.

Exactly the same findings as you, it only happens when in gamepad mode playing games and pushing the Y button. It only seemed to start around November time and definitely didn’t happen before then - as far as I’m concerned this is 100% a software/BIOS issue. Sorry to hear the M2 wouldn’t be a suitable temporary workaround for you. I have tried setting my memory to auto and it’s not made a blind bit of difference. The most frustrating part for me is, as you say, that the crashes are seemingly random and can happen after pushing the button only once or twice. I really hope ASUS can fix this soon, it’s becoming intolerable

Yep, they say they can't reproduce the issue but I've told them it's any game that requires you to button mash Y really, perfect test would be to load up any fighting game, and just spam Y

It’s not even button mashing Y, even just pushing Y causes it for me!

Indeed, I can mash Y a million times for a few minutes and next thing I know a few minutes later I press it once and only once and it goes black. I believe I only had one instance where not pressing Y made it crash but most of the time pressing the Y button crashes it immediately.

+1 to this problem. Witcher 3 will black screen and crash after 4-5 minutes to desktop, Hitman World of Absolution lasts under 20 seconds in game and causes a full device reboot.
It is surely a bad BIOS or GPU update as before I fully updated my device I played through the entirety of Cyberpunk 2077 without issue.
I can play lower stress games like Deep Rock Galactic Survivor and Dredge but that's about it, I'm not paying AU$1600 to only be able to play low stress games. I will return the device if there is no acknowledgement and news on a fix soon.
