Several people have reported this issue on Reddit; I've encountered it myself as well.
I created this thread on the ROGAllyX subreddit to try and gather info, no one else has added to it yet but it also has links to all the other threads I've seen about this matter: https://www.reddit.com/r/ROGAllyX/comments/1eoch1d/rog_ally_x_black_screen_crashes_has_it_happened/
Wondering if anyone can shed any more light on the cause and/or workarounds, or if an upcoming update is going to sort it.

I can confirm that Virtualization is enabled. I can also confirm my black screen crashes are happening an hour into gaming. Unclear if the Y button has anything to do with it yet. Screen goes black, fans stay on, power light on and can only be rebooted by holding power diwn.

A couple of users on Reddit have observed positive results from disabling Virtualization, so this definitely seems to be an avenue worth exploring.

There's a new BIOS update 308 out. One user on Reddit has already reported still getting the crashes on it; however, we have seen that 305 helped a lot of people (but not everyone) so it may still be the case that 308 may help some users. The user in question is one who noted a connection between the crashes and pushing the Y button; they also mentioned they were going to try playing with an external gamepad to see if there's any difference (but has not yet reported back on this).
EDIT: Not the same user; but a different user (who also had the connection with the Y button) has reported that they never had crashes while using an external gamepad.
With this data in mind, I think ASUS should be looking very closely at the Y button. Does it trigger anything weird in firmware, or is it possible that a cable or something else is getting caught under it and shorting? While I wouldn't say it's confirmed (and certianly, it's not a matter of "every time this button is pressed, a crash occurs"), this seems like the strongest lead yet.

I can confirm that my Ally X randomly crashes pressing the Y button. Sometimes it doesn’t happen for hours or it happens within an hour.
But my last 5 crashes instantly happened when I pressed the Y button.

I have a question I have a rog ally x and I was playing call of duty 6 and My screen had a black screen while the rog ally was still operating an lights were on the joysticks and fans were on while having the black screen do you know the cause of it

No, that isn’t related to this issue. That just happens because BO6 is a buggy mess.

Hi @Anbby_ROG , I sent a PM with additional information, but it doesn't let me attach the zipped .wim file - it just processes it and then disappears. I tried uploading it elsewhere and providing a link, but it told me there was "invalid HTML" and to retry. When I retried, I got another error message that said I hit the limit of PMs I could send. Can you please provide a link where I can upload the requested .wim file?

In 100% of cases(for me) it happens while pressing 'Y' button on built-in controller
Virtualization is enabled
Continuously experiencing this error while playing Diablo 4:
not related to the time played - it happens randomly even after a minute of play
not related to the intensity - device gets black screen crashes even after been idle in game for 10 minutes - just after pressing 'Y' button
Setup:
Just using it handheld
Occurring on the charger or not
Didn't try: Docked or with any connected peripherals
OS: Windows, stock install
BIOS v308 and everything is just up to date. But this issue is observed from the Rog Ally X release - I preordered it.

Hello guys! Would like to Chime in with some background for my Ally Xs Black Screen Crash.
Day 1 pre order pick up unit. I experienced my first Crash after conducting all the necessary updates; MCU, BIOS (304 at the time), Drivers. My first crash wasnt in game, but rather typing into a message box. Thereafter, the crashes started to get more frequent.
Then Bios305 dropped. Immediately updated. And it did not solve the issue. Still getting crashes. Decided to Flash BIOS down to 301 to 304 and 305, just cycling through the bios versions to replicate the trigger for crash.
And then, on reddit there were users who highlighted that hitting the 'Y' Button would cause the black screen, but on random occasions. I embarked on the same testing methodology, and true enough, this was the most consistent trigger for the black screen occurring.
Bios 308 is released. Updated. and the issue seems to have fixed the crashes, i was unable to replicate the crashes. All is well until the recent MCU313 update dropped. The crashes seem to have reoccurred. The methodology to trigger the crash was still the Y button press. But this time the crashes are harder to come by.
Bios 310. Flashed to this version earlier today, and have been trying out for the past 3 hours or so and havent come across any crashes with the Y button mashing.
read about some other version of Bios 310, but the files are unobtainable. I thought of running 2 different versions of Bios 310 on each of my ally Xs for testing.
i personally own 2 units of Ally Xs. Both of em have the same black screen crashes.
i apologize if i may not be able to provide any logs or numbers, but i figured its better if we are able to affirmingly replicate the cause of crashes, and then provide data logging. coming from a layman with zero tech background.
