Buttons not working, windows hiberation might be causing the problem. Solution.

Hey Asus, 

 

I just ran into this problem, and lucky someone on reddit had the answer:

So my ROG Ally X, which i've owned for literally only 3 days, had all the buttons go dead. Nothing worked, besides the power button, volume and that was it. All the face buttons were dead, even the RGB didn't work. I tried removing the Controller drivers, and Armoury Crate, and reinstalled them, but that didn't work. 

Finally, i ran into the post above, and it seems like there's a software hardware issue. The controller goes to sleep and doesn't wake up. But if  you cycle into hybernation mode, it'll start working again. So with your unit powered on, hit the power button to put it to sleep and once it's a sleep, hit the power button again to wake it up, and your buttons should start working again, including the RGB lighting. 

I was stumbed for the longest time, because when it died, even if i tried rebooting windows, it wouldn't work. It's literally something to do with hibernation that makes the controller non-responsive. Asus, please take a look.

  • Fan Settings in Armoury Crate SE:
  • Are there any external monitors or other devices connected?
  • Was the device connected to power when the issue occurred?
  • Situation when the issue occurred (e.g., during gameplay, idle, waking from sleep):
  • Armoury Crate SE > Settings > General > About > Service Version > Check Button (Copy all content):

If the issue happens again, please use the AsLogDumpTool to capture system information immediately after the issue occurs and record the exact time the problem happened.
