To start
I was playing a game before updating anything and I went to change the frame rate cap through armory crate, after switching it twice the system hard froze.
Then after it wouldn't boot back up I did the Cloud recovery option & once that finished it had its own issues and didny properly set the device back up as if it was brand new out of the box. I installed armory crate to have it do it's thing but then it didn't boot up again.
So now I'm on a fresh windows install from the Microsoft website. The device boots fine but with no drivers now (yay). So after getting the drivers installed again the issue comes back.
I'm on round two of trying to figure this out on a barebones windows install, I'm about over it.
I should've kept my Steam Deck...

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I'm not sure if the device is still with you, but if you still have it, we recommend reinstalling the system and then installing the verified drivers and software from the official support page to see if it works properly. Thank you.
Yes I did try this. I even called ASUS support and they ran me through everything as well. Nothing worked and I was advised to return it. I just returned it & unfortunately I will have to wait a week at least to get a new one.

Update: On a fresh windows install I went straight to armory crate to let it handle everything. Once it halfway done it black screened (potentially video drivers?) and didn't come back. A reboot showed (you guessed it), freezing on startup.
This time Windows was able to revert the issue and I was able to get to the point right before I started the armory crate install. I thought maybe I'd try the drivers directly from AMD and it acted kinda funky until it blue screened and froze again. This thing is going back to Best Buy I'm done.

Want to add one final note to this. I narrowed it down to it most likely being a hardware problem. Specifically the APU. I'm mainly upset that I drove an hour to & from to get this and it's faulty. I really enjoyed the 30 minutes I got to play with this out of the box before I spent 8 hours trying EVERYTHING to fix it.
