Black screen and GPU issue on boot with ROG AALY

lucasH1993

I not sure what to do. I just got my ROG ally z1 extreme and it has this weird issue.

I have all GPU and windows updates done.

but when i turn off my ROG and turn it back on 2/3 time its a black screen but power and RGB lights are on.I also hear the windows boot sound. but the screen remains black how ever long i leave it .

also when i do a hard boot down and reboot and log in when the screen does turn on the GPU driver says there an error with the GPU driver.

I have updated from the My asus app and Crate

then all will work till i turn it off and boot up again.

so i have to install GPU driver ever time i restart my ally

need some advice or help

Hi @lucasH1993 ,

Please try to reset the system through Cloud Recovery and only use My Asus to update and install the necessary drivers and software.

Then test to see if the issue is improved. Thank you.

great thank you I have resolved the issue with the GPU now it seems but i still have the black screen issue. after the ROG goes to sleep or restarts the screen will not wake up. but the RGP and power button come on. but no output to display or external display work until i reboot 2  -3 times.

I have also followed some tutorials and changed sleep cycle to hibernate and that also has had no luck

Hi @lucasH1993 ,

I would like to confirm with you if the AMD graphics driver version you are currently using is V31.0.24027.1012

Additionally, please try disabling the "Super Standby mode" in Armoury Crate SE > Performance > Power Saving and see if the issue improves. Thank you.

morning

Indeed I have the latest version of the GPU

I have also disabled super standby in armory crate

I have also changed Sleep to hybernate in windows power option but no luck just black screen and RGP on the joysticks

still rebooting and on 3 - 4 try it will turn on

so black screen still an issue

but GPU is now no longer being disabled on boot

Hi @lucasH1993 ,

Thank you for your reply. Could you please confirm if the "latest version of the GPU" you mentioned refers to the V31.0.24027.1012 version that we discussed earlier?
If the issue persists after performing a Cloud Recovery and installing all ASUS-verified drivers, we recommend sending your Ally to a local service center for further hardware diagnostics to identify the problem. Thank you.
