Torchlight 2A "Diablo clone" ARPG.
I admit it's a little "cartoony", but the style is engaging and makes it easy to overlook the basic 3D graphics. Generally more colourful and lively than Diablo games but it still offers some grim, dark, gritty (and even scary/worrisome/disturbing) scenes. Also includes magic-fueled steampunk tech, ridiculously oversized weapons, a hint of anime, and something intangibly reminiscent of classic Final Fantasy games. Fast-moving fast-paced smooth and intuitive gameplay, the intuitive simplicity hides enough complexities and subtleties and build options to have attracted and maintained a respectably-large player community. Free demo. Free mods (and built-in mod engine). And
fishing, lol, if that's your thing. Overall verdict: it's fun, I like it!
Next on my list is another ARPG called
Grim Dawn. I'm sick of Diablo 2 after playing it on and off for years. I'll continue averting the childlike horror of Diablo 3. Path of Exile is too much of a time sink and too full of powergaming munchkins for my tastes. Maybe I'll fire up old Darkstone or NOX again, lol, never actually finished either one back in the day.
