8GB sniper ram

Not really worth it imo.
7870 and R9 270 is basically the same chip only difference is the r9 270x 4GB has double the VRAM and a bit more memory bandwidth + slightly higher clocks depending on the model.

Hello alone_in_the_dark

Why not go with a gtx 970, you can get one for 350.00 u.s. dollars and will stomp the 7870 and 270x in everything.

The gtx 970 has 4GB of Vram vs. the 7870's and 270x's 2GB.

If you feel the need to do free NV marketing at least read the OP 😄
R9 270X 4GB

Not worth buying though, then again I don't see the wisdom of putting a 350$ card in his current rig either...

My mistake I see he does list the 4GB 270x.

The 8150 is a 3.0GHz 8 core cpu, it would have no trouble running a gtx970. In a gaming pc the gpu is where you will see the most performance increase. In my opinion for 350.00 dollars it would be the best upgrade he could make.

Suppose so if he is willing to spend that much and going with NV 😃
Just saying there are some options in between almost no upgrade at all like the 270x 4GB and going overkill like the 970.

More info about the screen resolution and games being played would be nice alone_in_the_dark. Or if you plan on upgrading the rest of your rig with a better CPU & more RAM any time soon...

The 270x barely edges out the 7870 in performance. As elesde says it would not be worth upgrading to the 270x as the increase in performance is very minimal. I doubt you would even notice a difference between the two when playing games, unless of course you are running out of vram.

I am running duel Asus R9-270X Top Editions and I'm very pleased with em and they are only the 2GB ones. When I bought the first one about a year ago it was almost $300, today I would probably run duel 280's as the price for them are lower then when I bought my first 270X. But being that the price for the 270's are as low as they are today, its hard to beat them for performance vs dollar when you double them up. HOW EVER if you only want one R9-270,
just double up the 7XXX you have. When i upgraded to the 270X I was doing it from an old Asus Radeon HD 6950GT
