I bought BF3 on a disk. I really hate the game. Maps are to small to really fly and the game play is bad. BF2 is a much better game. If they had an AIX BF3 maybe it would be better. BF3 gfx with BF2 gameplay would be awesome. Anyway. They told me I can't sell my disk. It is registered to me and that is it. YOU SUCK EA I want to give a friend a deal and recupe some cash, but I'm out of luck. Thanks Origin/EA for making me a life long hater of you. Never to buy from them again.:(:mad:

I wouldn't really be blaming EA for this one...

All modern games work this way to stop piracy and what you would like to do is considered piracy. Anything with a CD key these days is locked to you the moment you register it so that people can't go and do exactly what your trying to.

So now you hate EA for trying to make sure people can't steal their games? Are you going to hate companies that use steam for the same thing? Are you going to hate companies that don't use either and lock the serial to you in other ways?

Actually steam is not 100% downloaded there are games you can buy on disk that are registered through steam. Dawn of War 2 is a perfect example of this.

And yes it is pirating as you are making money from someone elses property. When you buy the disc you get a license to watch that DVD or play that game you do not however have the right to make money of that or distribute it. Aside from watching it you can make one copy for personal archival purposes that is all. You aren't even allowed to play it in a public place. As for Windows if you buy an OEM copy it is locked to your MAC address and I'm sure if you told Microsoft you sold your disc to the next person they would have something to say about it as well most likely taking legal action against you. As you are making money of their property and their hard work.

Software Piracy is defined as the unauthorized use, reproduction, distribution, or transmission of copyrighted material.

You are not authorised to distribute their software therefore selling it to someone is pirating it.

Then why is it ok to sell unwanted games to game shops? isn't that a form of piracy as well?

Because they are authorised to do so by their reseller license kind of. But a lot of developers don't like this as they don't get any money out of it. It's kind of a grey area there where technically they are allowed to do it but they shouldn't and the developers are against it but theres nothing officially stopping them.

If you trade a game in to a reseller and they give you money for that the money is out of their own pocket or if you trade it for a game then they lose money on that transaction. Then once they sell your Preowned game later on they make that money back and a profit however the developer of that game doesn't see any of that money hence why they don't like it

Yeah I'm not arguing that point, I am not a software developer myself so I am unconcerned by this. However this doesn't change the fact that what the OP was trying to do is considered Piracy and that locking software to you is something that practically every company does Microsoft included. Steam also works the same way as origin when buying physical media, as some games activated on steam are available as physical media as well Duke Nukem Forever and Dawn of War 2 are two that come to mind straight away aside from steam Ubisoft use their own software with Asassins Creed.
