Gaming in 2560x1440

Hello guys!

Anyone here gaming in 2560x1440? If so, how it is compared to 1920x1080? Been thinking about adding a second 7970 and getting a Asus 27" PB278Q. How much of a difference is it?

Hey there, ive got a G series laptop so cant go that high with the res but my friend has a beastly alienware with dual 690's. Playing anything in 2560x1440 looks incredibly crisp with 0 aliased edges. If you can run games at 60+fps at such a hi res it really does look alot better..

Sweet, as I said if I go with a new monitor I'll get a second 7970 and put a small OC on that as well. Should be able to play most games on decent graphics on that res, right?

I'm at 2400x1600 which is pretty close, and it's quite nice. The more pixels the better. Though if you are tight on money don't bother... But it looks like you aren't 😉

FYI 2400x1600 is a bit of a pain because some games arbitrarily don't support it derp. I like black borders though, it's like cinematic mode.

AA looks crisper though.

Puts a significant load on the GPU. Adding a second HD7970 is definately a good investment to ensure that you continue to have an awesome gaming experience.

Yeah I know that I wont be able to play with highish graphics with just one gpu that's why I was wondering if it's such a big difference from 1920x1080

Games have to support that resolution to work correctly

It is a big difference especially if you sit close to your screen;)....but to run max settings you will need that second card.

What games are you planning on going crossfired 7970s @ 1440 for? In example, I have crossfired 7950s both OCd to 1000mhz core, for some reason I can't OC the memory clocks but that is besides the point. In BF3 2560x1440 with no aa and everything ultra I get 120+ fps down to high 90s in intense situations. I currently run a Yamakasi Catleap 2B Extreme OC monitor (2560x1440) and I have been able to OC it to 129hz, at 130hz I hit the PCB limit and the screen flashes black, for longevity of the PCB I have downclocked it to 120hz. This is definitely the best monitor you can get at the moment, no other monitor can do 1440 @ 120hz. It uses the same LG panels that come in the Apple Thunderbolt displays, except that they are A- or A rated panels so you have a chance of getting dead/bright/stuck pixels. Personally I had 1 bright stuck pixel on the middle right side which I was able to resolve by rubbing it with a cloth.

imo, if you're going for crossfired 7970s you would want this monitor. If not, then you can get pretty much get exactly the same monitor with no OC potential, so only 60hz 1440, at around the $400 range, which has the same LG panel.

For more information on the OC model you should read up on them at 120hz.net you will not be disappointed.

edit Forgot to mention the low input lag from only having a DVI-D input and no OSD
