Gamepad & Ram

Now that i'm hopefully building a new system, i need some advice on the gaming part of it. Since this forum is dedicated to gamers, i figured i'd ask here. I used to be a rather good racer on the NFS scene, until RL issues kicked in and i had to cut back on the gaming etc. Now that things are finally starting to settle down i'd like to get back "into shape". Now as a racer, i prefer to use a gamepad for multiple reasons

- don't have the room on the desk for a wheel/pedals/shifter
- don't have the experience with it ^^
- budget i'd rather initially spend on the system itself then perhaps a wheel setup as future upgrade

No wireless stuff either as i've never been a fan of them for multiple reasons.

- no matter how you turn it, there's always some delay between input and output
- don't want to buy batteries all the time or let it charge, preventing you from play when you want to or having to stop gaming cause the thing needs charging.

Anyone know any good gamepads?

The choice is currently the logitech F370

The next question is: as a gamer todays games can fill up 8gb ram pretty easy so the step is to move to 16 or 32. Since the other main purpose will be video processing (x264/h264/h265) the question is what. Though i am leaning towards 32. Then there's the brand. I havent fully decided on which one i'd use (maximus VIII formula or asrock Extreme7+) but it would need to be on the QVL.

Gamepad no idea...sorry never used one...

RAM....

Gaming doesn't really need more than 8GB http://www.techspot.com/article/1043-8gb-vs-16gb-ram/ if you want more that's fine but don't invent reasons LOL.;):o

If you are a multimedia pro maybe you need 32GB but then you will want X99...but if you aren't then 16GB will do great and you can get some fast 16GB kits....Trident X, RipjawsV....

I use Photoshop with the megapixel output from a D810 and 16GB works great for me...you would only need 32GB if you are working with huge file sizes...

X99 would be a better platform for that kind of work...and plays games too...

Mine is a canon 650D. So considering that one is half the MPIX of yours, and im only a moderate lightroom / PS user that would make 32gig overkill by those standards.

Guess now i need a brand recommendation from the QVL and a gamepad 🙂

G.Skill kits are great.... Corsair Dominator Platinum kits too...some people swear by Hyper X

Someone will be along who knows something about the gamepad 🙂

** edit ** woops: wrong language 😛

It said: the more research i do, the more i'm ending up with the (surprise to me) wireless XBOX one controller. Where the benefit is with a microUSB cable it can be wired too.

I'm using the Asus BT-400 Bluetooth adapter w/ PS4 DS Controller just fine, if you are looking for a good gamepad. Can be used wirelessly or wired.

Good write-up on how to do it here, it was fairly easy.

I play most pc games with the XBOX One controller, even ArmA 3. It's a bit expensive for the whole package, you get the controller of course and a standard USB to micro USB cable plus a rechargeable battery, the wireless dongle was purchased separately. My XBOX 360 windows wireless controller's rechargeable battery lasted about 4 years. The XBOX One controller will charge up even if the computer is off.

i have considered the DS4 controller, but there's no official support from it from Sony for use with windows, which according to the articles and support pages i find can make it difficult if not impossible to map the buttons for games or the preconfigured mapping does not match the buton layout on the DS4 controller.
