Game saves management

What do people use to backup your game save files? I haven't had a consistent way of doing this in the past but after a recent windows crash, I'm trying to find a good solution. Games store files all over the place it seems, making it more difficult than it should be. Thanks for any ideas.

Make one folder for games.
Buy an external hard drive, and copy that folder in there regularly.

Steam saves all of that so you don't have to..

I have not tried it as of yet but Razer has a Game Manager you can look at it here http://www.razerzone.com/gamebooster#savegame
