Hello ROG gamers,
Today I'd like to show gaming performance between the ROG Strix 3090Ti LC OC and the ASUS Prime RTX 5080. I have to say up front, if you plan on using the multi frame gen feature of the RTX 5000 series, the game has to support it. Here is a current list of all games that support the multi frame gen feature.
For the best possible performance, I ran the benchmarks/videos with both gpu's overclocked to their maximum.
Specs:
Motherboard - ROG Strix Z690-F Gaming WiFi
CPU - i7 12700KF
Memory - Kingston Fury Beast 16GB (2x8GB) 6200MT/s 38-36-36-40-2T
SSD - Seagate Firecuda 530 1TB Gen 4
PSU - EVGA Supernova 1600w T2
Case: Thermaltake Tower 900
GPU - ROG Strix RTX 3090 Ti LC OC with EK Quantum Vector 2 water block and Hardware Labs SR2 560mm radiator.
GPU - ASUS Prime RTX 5080 with Bykski armored end water block and Hardware Labs SR2 560mm radiator.
First up is a raw performance comparison with Red Dead Redemption 2, this game doesn't natively support the multi frame gen feature. The benchmark was ran at 2560 x 1440 resolution with all game settings to the highest with DLSS set to quality.
ROG Strix 3090 Ti LC OC
Core Clock: 2205MHz (Default 1950MHz)
Memory Clock: 22200MHz (Default 21000MHz)
ASUS Prime RTX 5080
Core Clock - 3300MHz (Default 2655MHz)
Memory Clock 36002MHz (Default 30002MHz)
Next up, Call of Duty Black Ops 6. This is another raw performance comparison, this game doesn't support the multi frame gen feature.
The game was ran at 2560 x 1440 resolution with all game settings at the highest. Performance numbers are shown in the upper left and right of the screen. Temperatures are shown in the upper right with GPU Tweak III's OSD.
ROG Strix 3090 Ti LC OC - Average frames per second 115FPS
ASUS Prime RTX 5080 - Average frames per second 149FPS
Next is Cyberpunk 2077, this game has a built in benchmark and supports multi frame gen. The benchmark was ran at 2560 x 1440 resolution with the highest game settings. Path tracing and ray construction are turned off for now.
ROG Strix 3090Ti - Average frames per second 80.94FPS
Core Clock - 2205MHz
Memory Clock - 22556MHz
Asus Prime RTX 5080 Frame Gen Off - Average frames per second 101.58FPS
Core Clock - 3345MHz
Memory Clock - 36002MHz
Asus Prime RTX 5080, same overclock with Multi Frame Gen X2.
ASUS Prime RTX 5080, same overclock Multi Frame Gen x3
Asus Prime RTX 5080, same overclock Multi Frame Gen x4.
ASUS Prime RTX 5080, same overclock, 3840 x 2160 (4k) resolution, path tracing and ray construction turned on with Multi Frame Gen x4.
ASUS Prime RTX 5080, same overclock, 5120 x 2880 (5k) resolution, path tracing and ray construction turned on with Multi Frame Gen x4.
Next, one of the newer games that supports the multi frame gen feature is Doom The Dark Ages. I'll do videos since this game doesn't have a built in benchmark.
ROG Strix 3090Ti LC OC, performance is shown in the upper left and right of the screen. The game was ran at 2560 x 1440 resolution with the highest game settings. Average frames per second shows 85FPS.
Core clock - 2190MHz
Memory Clock - 22400MHz
ASUS Prime RTX 5080, Frame Gen Off, average frames per second 95FPS.
Core Clock - 3330MHz
Memory Clock - 36002MHz
Same overclock Multi Frame Gen x2. I have to switch to screenshots of GPU Tweak III, the game was freezing with Frame Gen x2 and the OSD enabled.
Average frames per second 197FPS
Same overclock Multi Frame Gen X3, average frames per second 257FPS.
Same overclock Multi Frame Gen x4, average frames per second 330FPS.
Same overclock, Multi Frame Gen x4, 3840 x 2160 (4k) resolution, average frames per second 208FPS.
The RTX 3000 series don't support the frame gen feature, so I did some raw performance comparisons to get a better idea of the performance increase. As you can see though, the multi frame gen feature of the RTX 5000 series leaves the 3090Ti in the dust. But, the ROG Strix 3090 Ti LC OC is still a powerful graphics card for gaming and holds its own, even in the newest titles.
It will depend on the game and resolution as to how much of a performance increase you will get.
1) Comparing the average frames per second in Red Dead redemption 2, at 1440p with Frame Gen Off, the ASUS Prime RTX 5080 shows a 57FPS increase.
2) Comparing the average frames per second in Call of Duty Black Ops 6 at 1440p, The ASUS Prime shows a 34FPS increase.
3) Comparing the average frames per second in Cyberpunk 2077, at 1440p with Frame Gen Off, the ASUS Prime RTX 5080 shows a 20FPS increase.
4) Comparing the average frames per second in Doom The Dark Ages at 1440p, The ASUS Prime RTX 5080 shows a 10FPS increase.
I'll run the Nvidia DLSS feature test with the ASUS Prime RTX 5080, Multi Frame Gen is forced on at x2. The benchmark is set to Performance with Frame Gen x2 and 2560 x 1440 resolution. The ASUS Prime RTX 5080 is set to default, the Core Clock boosted as high as 2820MHz during the benchmark, Memory is at 30002MHz.
The overclocking results are insanely good. I was able to hit a maximum Core Clock of 3315MHz and maximum Memory Clock of 35004MHz.
GPU Core Clock - That's 5MHz shy of a 500MHz overclock with this benchmark. I can hit 3345MHz with Cyberpunk 2077.
GPU Memory - 5002MHz overclock with this benchmark, I can hit 36002MHz with Cyberpunk2077, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Doom The Dark Ages.
Overclocking the Core to 3315MHz and the memory to 35004MHz gave a significant increase in the score.
Same overclock Multi Frame Gen x3, 1440p
Same overclock Multi Frame Gen x4, 1440p
Let's turn up the settings in the benchmark. Same overclock, Multi Frame Gen x4, 1440p, benchmark set to Nvidia DLAA
Same overclock, Multi Frame Gen X4, 3840 x 2160 (4k) resolution, benchmark set to Nvidia DLAA
With the Bykski armored end water block and Hardware Labs SR2 560mm radiator, maximum temperature during the benchmarks was 52c.
After doing this performance test, there are a few things that stand out about the ASUS Prime RTX 5080.
1) The Multi Frame Gen Feature. The 4000 series gpu's gave you Frame Gen x2, with the 5000 series you get Frame Gen x2, x3 and x4.
2) Overclocking capability. Hitting a 500MHz overclock on the core is nothing short of astounding, and a 6000MHz overclock on the memory is just as equal. I don't know if it's the driver or GPU Tweak III, but the memory seems to be capped at 60002 MHz, it will not go any higher with the slider.
3) Power consumption - The ASUS Prime RTX 5080 is rated at 360 watts maximum, that's 90 watts less than the ROG Strix 3090Ti LC OC.
I would be interested to see your overclocks, questions and comments are welcomed.
