DOOM doesn't like MARS (Ha ha! Irony.)

Hey everyone!

I'm having trouble running doom for more than 15 minutes on my MARS 760. Either I'll turn a corner too fast or alt fire on a weapon and the game will suddenly crash to desktop with a report form. Anyone know what could happen?

I'm playing on the highest settings on 1080 resolution. Is there an ideal setting I need to toggle to make sure it stops doing this?

Would you have another psu to try? Yours is pretty much right on the edge especially if you're overclocking. Even if you're not overclocking total system power draw with the Mars 760 is about 550w which isn't leaving you much room. I don't know if I would consider a thermaltake psu a quality psu except maybe the thermaltake toughpower psu's.

But I can see where you're coming from since I'm using the graphics card's stock clocks, and Corsair Vengance 2400. (Had to change settings in the Bios for optimal speed on that.)

I've had my eye on a Seasonic Prime Titanum 850 for a while (local store sells it for 160, same price as their Titanum 750) So I could upgrade...

I'm not going to tell you to go out and buy a new psu because you still may have problems, I was just wondering if you had another one to test with. I just got the Doom game two days ago, performance is great and has beautiful graphics, I'm not having any problems with it.

It seems to be optimized very well for pc and your Mars 760 should run it fairly well. The Mars 760 is a 4GB gpu but that's 2GB for each gpu, once the 2GB of Vram is used up performance will suffer. The recommended gpu is a gtx 970 and the Mars 760 should be close to it performance wise.

I found a review of the Mars 760 and here it says the minimum is a 600w psu. At the bottom of the Hardware Setup - Power Consumption page it says what would happen if your psu can't cope with the load and crashing is one of the symptoms.

Well the current PSU is kinda hot and it's getting noisy so it's probably time for an upgrade (I was looking for an excuse). A more efficient PSU (titanium being most) could cut down on heat and provide more power.

What would cut down on heat is giving it more wattage headroom. Kinda hot and loud means it's working pretty hard and could be the problem you're having, I'm not going to say this with 100% certainty though.

You want to give your psu at least 30% headroom, the more headroom you give it the cooler and quieter it will run and the longer it will last. Seasonic is high quality, evga supernova's are good too with a 10 yr warranty.

Or you could upgrade your gpu, the new gpu's don't use as much power and would take alot of load off the psu. If you can find a gtx 970 - 980 for a good price that might be what to do.

Well, I'm planning on upgrading to a 1080TI when it's announced.
And because the MARS 760 is about the same performance as a 970 (As you stated earlier), there's no point in shelling out 300$ (current prices) for that kind of card when a 160$ PSU can do the trick.

Oh wow yeah a 1080 Ti sounds much better and an 850w psu would have plenty of headroom. You have a 4k monitor and I don't know if a 1080 Ti is capable of 60 FPS at 4k but with most games I bet it will be close. 🙂

Yeah, the 1080 ti has been speced in a few rumor sites along with the Titan XP Here's hoping it has the same performance buff as the 980 ti to the 980, which would mean about 60 FPS on 4k with one card.
