CPU spikes everytime i launch a game

Hey guys
Quick question, i finally figured out what was causing my lag on my desktop from a previous issue , Afterburner and catalyst seemed to be fighting over fan speed, as soon as i shut down either of them ( tried it both ways ) everything turned normal again.
Now when i launch a game, my CPU spikes way up again, making my computer unresponsive.
How do i fix this? I use process lasso to keep everything in check, its in gaming mode, on high performance.
Build : amd 11000T watercooled cpu
16gb ram
250gb ssd
1tb hard drive
3 6970's in crossfire.
All drivers are up too date, computer works great as long as i dont launch a game from steam. But thats the point of a gaming rig right? All temps are normal, fresh install of windows 8.1
Any help appreciated
Thanks

Ye ole bottleneck I suspect. Not so sure an old Phenom II can handle three GPU's in Crossfire.

What's your GPU usage when running a game?
