New SimCity is out TOMORROW! Is anyone buying it? What's the general expectation for lost time/work/relationships?

The news gets worse...

I've read that now there are complaints about how "sims" (people) don't live in any single home, they change houses every night, etc...thus screwing up mass transit and how you set up roadways, etc. Furthermore, police will all go to one location (crime) despite how well you set up where the stations are located. Sounds like a huge mess you'll want to stay away from 6 months to a year. For anyone dying to get their Simcity on, buy Simcity 4 Deluxe like I did, sounds like you'll be much happier that way. I find it insanely hilarious how bad Simcity (new) is considering their asking price on Origin which is outrageous for any game. Digital deluxe is $79.99 LOL!!!! $80 for a game you can't even log into, and when you do, works entirely wrong. Good job EA!

It is pretty terrible.

There's also videos going around of a debug mode that allows unlimited offline play with no detrimental effects. EA hyped up the games supposed 'cloud processing features' as a reason for the always on DRM.

I wish EA didn't control a number of games that I love. Dragon Age, Mass Effect, The Sims, Warhammer Online, Ultma Online and Dark Age of Camelot.

Part of me hopes EA crashes and burns in the next few years and these IPs go to studios that can truly appreciate their concepts

Heh, you think 80 bucks is bad for the digital deluxe version? here in Aus, that same damn thing costs $100.

Here's an article discussing the debug mode Shawn is referring to:

It's pretty damning to the lies they've been telling about the connection requirement but I wonder if it even matters. The vast majority of gamers don't seem to care or have the willpower to boycott a title or publisher. On top of that many do no research at all before making a purchase so there's not even a chance of an informed decision. I remember a friend complaining about the Assassin's Creed 3 DRM upon purchasing it well after launch because apparently he had not read any recent gaming news or reviews.:(

When asked what the servers helped with they said that a lot of computing was done by it. But a modder fixed an unlimited offline mode and guess what, there wasent any difference in performance....

| Memory: 2x8gb G.Skill Trident X 2400mhz | GPU: PNY Geforce GTX 670 | PSU: NZXT Hale 90 750w
| SSD: Intel 120gb 330 series (OS) | Intel 120gb 330 series (Games n stuff)
| Monitor: LG 29EA93 | Cooling: Custom Loop

Wow, what a question!

Answer- No way!

With all the problems they've been having, not a chance in heck would I touch it. I loved simcity 4 but had to stop playing it due to the feeling that I was wasting my life away. I was curious about the new sim city, but not curious enough to spend the kind of money they're selling it for currently.

After 6 months, when they put it on sale, IF they've fixed the problems, I'll consider it. But even then, EA and all... it'll have to be at a good price for me to say yes.

^^ My point of view..

I know that piracy is an issue.. but I think making genuine single player users suffer is definitely not the answer. They will have probably lost more in genuine sales that they would have saved had the servers work.

They're still probably pretty happy though. 1.1million sales in the first week i think? But you're right. I wonder how many people like us who WERE planning on getting it, now will bypass it after the launch debacle?

I wish EA would offer a refund for those users who are still jaded by this 'experience'

The offer of the free games isn't really acceptable to me (I also own multiple copies of all the games they're offering) and I'd much rather have my money back.
