Hi all,
I am getting ready to purchase the Rapture GT-BE98 Pro within the next month, and I am wondering am I better buying it direct from ASUS or BH Photo or somewhere the community would recommend. Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you all.

I would say, if the price is the same, it may not make a difference. One thing, a site other than ASUS might have something which requires you to send the unit directly back to ASUS for certain reasons, after a specific time limit.
Buying it directly from ASUS is probably the best choice.

Thank you for the feedback that was the way I was leaning, though thinking about it I realized I do have Total Tech at Best Buy to the end of the year which was my other thought. If I buy it from them just return it if any problems and they replace it.

If you have such a service from Best Buy and as I understand it doesn't cost extra for the BE98 Pro to be covered under the umbrella then might as well purchase it from Best Buy...
Pro of BH is that they provide free 2-day shipping, (but that would be my comment if you hadn't mentioned your Best Buy plan)...

Yes I forgot all about it until my son reminded me. Thank you for your help. One other question I have an 8 TB external hard drive I was going to plug into the router for a network hard drive at the moment. It already has some data on it do I have to erase this and reformat or anything fancy before I plug it in. It is a WD MyBook about one year old.
Thank you again for all your help.

I actually had one (3 TB) set up/formatted by a friend, so I'm not sure what he did. (It plugs right in to the router and is accessible via Windows File Explorer). There used to be a bug in log in credentials so I always disable security in Samba I believe. This makes a blinking warning come on on ASUSwrt (upper right icon) but I just ignore it to be honest.
I believe the bottom line answer is if you use WD software to access the drive there may be trouble but if it is simply formatted NTFS or EX-FAT it should be okay. I think someone was concerned about a small maximum partition capacity, but I hope that it's not smaller than your 8 TB.

The manual shows 4 TB is the largest you can have.
I have a 2 TB My Passport connected to the USB 3.0 port and it seems to show up fine. I can see the folders, but I am not ready to create some sort of online sharing account, so currently Windows is blocking access.

Guest login is for local access. I haven't tried accessing from outside the LAN though...

I'm thinking more of sharing in the house my son and I can put files up there we both use and go from there. I don't see us ever sharing online. Thanks for your feedback I guess I was worrying about if I would have to get rid of the files already on it because I have it connected to my computer right now. It sounds like I am worrying needlessly.

Thank you so the guest login is what we would both use then. Seems strange, but okay. I have another question in reading the setup it says the computer used must have a LAN port 10 Base T and IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be wireless capability. Haven't upgraded the computer to wifi 7 yet is this what is saying it needs just to setup?
