Thinking of Purchasing Rapture AX11000

Hi,

Hoping someone can help answer a few questions prior to purchase. I have old Netgear routers, buggy and now slow however although the software is generally awful they had a couple of nice features going for them:

1. Address reservation: I do this to try to avoid IP clashes but also to group devices to make things easier to manage. I know devices don't always agree by reserved IPs but this is not going to be my point. One of the things Netgear did well was to allow selection of a device from a table and reserve an IP for it. Although this was slow and clunky generally unreserved devices were at the bottom of the table making them easy to identify. I notice Asus use a drop down box. If a device is chosen and an IP given does that device no longer appear in the drop down, i.e. is it easy to identify those without already reserved IP's?

2. Naming: Netgear also allowed a device (client) name to be set during address reservation. I'm guessing from what I've seen they are two different screens for the Asus router?

3. Access control by MAC: This info I can't find. There appears to be wireless MAC whitelist/blacklist control but not LAN. Again Netgear allow any device, connected by any means, to be blocked. So anyone plugging in ethernet (yes, I know they obviously need physical access somewhere) could automatically be blocked. Is there a similar concept on this router?

Hoping someone can help. Have a good day.

No

Same on Asus. I saw only one page on LAN Server - DHCP.

3.  Access control by MAC: This info I can't find.

No. It's not possible to cut off someone on port if some other mac address show up on this cable.

Many thanks for the response. I'm surprised by the lack of MAC (or other) whitelisting/blacklisting that encompasses all devices.

There should be MAC defined control.  May I suggest looking at the GT-AX11000 Pro version...

But you can't control who is connected to the ethernet ports

@speedy32  I did not know that, my apologies for being misinformed.  I haven't tried this MAC filter on my ASUS routers before and assumed it was for both wireless and wired clients.

I'll check it out, thanks.
