RT-BE96U 10GB WAN Packet Loss On Reboot

Hello,

I am in IT, and I have setup several RT-BE96U's and every one I setup to use the 10GB WAN port I get packet loss, and its a consistent tick of packet like every second or so I drop a few packets, this does not happen on the 1GB WAN side, only the 10GB port, this took me some time to diagnose, I usually setup a reboot schedule for a weekly reboot for my clients, and they would reach out and say something is wrong, I also personally have one as my main router currently, upon reboot (from rebooting either via the scheduler or manually) packet loss happens every time, at first I thought it was the ONT, and I had that replaced 3 times now, and that did not fix it, also between myself and 6 other clients having the same problem I figured at this point it has to be the RT-BE96U (which it is) Yes I have factory reset, Yes all of the routers are up to date on the latest firmware, and Yes I have tried different cables, no change, again this does not happen on the 1GB WAN port, only the 10GB WAN port, I have found that after a reboot (and its fully up and running) unplugging the 10GB WAN connection and waiting for the LED to turn red on the top display, then re-plugging in the 10GB WAN connection, usually fixes the problem, so something on a reboot causes packet loss...I reported this 6 months ago to ASUS hoping to get a firmware update to fix the problem, the latest update on 8/26/25 (3.0.0.6.102_38984) would fix the problem and it has not, at this point if a firmware can't fix it, maybe there is a problem with hardware...

Thanks

Are the routers being connected to a 10 gig port on the ONTs/Modems?

Yes, correct..this problem does not happen on the 1GB WAN port, only the 10GB WAN port...

I have a ticket open with ASUS currently, just talked to a level 2 technician today, waiting to hear back

Sorry I was wondering if the ONT port is 10 GbE to match the 10 Gb WAN port.

Yes it is a 10GB port on the ONT..

I may be wrong, but I think @jzchen is asking what ports on the ONT are being used to connect to the router.

On my router, it takes a little longer for the red light to go out on the 10G port than it does on a 2.5G port.
